This thread asked the question if Mikkel Kessler wins the upcoming super middle tourney, will he be the best super middleweight ever. Opinion went one of two ways: yes, and no because Joe Calzaghe was clearly better. Plenty of respect for two European fighters. There's plenty more than one AMERICAN giving respect to TWO EUROPEAN fighters.

Not really, maybe Lewis but Hatton, Calzaghe have angles to their best wins.

If Joe had fought and beaten Hopins and Jones in their prime he would get mad respect and he would be lorded for it, its that simple.
well Lennox Lewis did face the best you had and he Never got any respect from you americans and is still to this day hated by you all. He is without a doubt a top 10 heavyweight of all time. but you americans just think he is some brittish hype job and he never gets any credit or respect from you all.

calzaghe yes, he faced bad competition and is far from an atg BUT you americans all act like he was just a bum that would get knocked out the second he would have faced a prime roy jones or something. whcih is far from the case.

Hatton beat tszyu, jlc, malignaggi, urango and challenged the p4p number 1 twice, yeah he was not an atg either but he did challenged the best there was, he was hardly just some euro-bum with a padded record otherwise he wouldnt have fought mayweather and pacquiao.

i don't like a fighter if he fights a certian style.

like hatton, got good power, but clinches every freaking time. i know that stragety but to do it for 12 rounds straight is like WTF???

and i don't like how vic leaves himself open alot......that why dornaire KO'd him.

i don't like how calzhage throw hooks

damn alll these europeans maybe i just don't like euros

but seriously if it something a fighter does that i don't like and i mean dont like then of course im not gonna like him...race don't mean nothing to me

and growing up my favorite boxer was julio cesar chavez one of the greatest of all time!!!!!!!!

yea i admit cotto vs pac ever happens im root for cotto but if pac wins i wont be heartbroken just cause i love boxing.......thats why gatti was great 2 watch is like he step into the ring with no regards towards his body i know he was from jersey but i would of love him if he was from idaho
I grew up watching more American boxing than I did Mexican so early on most of my favorite fighters were the likes of Ali, Saad, Howard Davis, Pea, and Mel Taylor. Now I am big fans of guys like PWill, Arreola, Iron Boy, Linares along with fighters of my nationality

I don't root for my own nationality moreso than my geography. To me if you limit yourself to just rooting for your nationality then you miss out on all the other exciting fighters boxing has to offer

I usually root for black fighters, so yeah, race does influence who I support.

true i agree wit you i think some try to have healthy debates but sometimes people go to far on here......bring race into it i think we shouldnt lump a group of people with mayweather pac cotto or any huggers out there

                      Errr..........

Lewis is ranked extremely high by the American fans, he had just been inducted into the HOF.

                      Im not American.

Mayweather and Pacquiao only fought him because of the fan base he brought to the table, not because they would of got great recognition for beating him.

Hatton and Calzaghe are not bums but they were wrapped in cotton wool for large portion of their career's.
