Frank Warren- Khan will be King

Promoter Frank Warren feels success for Amir Khan on Saturday night would launch the Bolton boxer up to the world's elite.

The 22-year-old Briton takes on WBA light-welterweight champion Andreas Kotelnik at Manchester's MEN Arena as he bids to realise his dream of becoming a world champion.

And with potential fights against Ricky Hatton and Juan Manuel Marquez being mooted further on down the line should he win, Warren is keen to see his man succeed.

"This is a tough fight for Amir, but it's one that I believe he can win provided he maintains his discipline and stays focused," Warren told Sky Sports News. "It could be a springboard for him to go on to much, much bigger things.

"Andreas is a very competent champion, is well respected, and probably has not had the accolades that he should have got for some of his wins.

"I'm confident Amir can win it. He knows what he's good at doing and I think the speed is the key and his accuracy will get him through it."

Khan's work with new trainer Freddie Roach paid dividends in mid-March when the Olympic silver medallist took out Marco Antonio Barrera and Roach his confident his charge will become world champion.

"He's a very good fighter," Roach said of Kotelnik. "We've studied him and we know him pretty well.

"We know his habits his good ones his bad ones so we're ready for that and he can't hit what he can't find."

        So what?
Amir isnt experienced enough to be fighting the likes of Hatton or JMM.
Frank Warren is a money hungry ****!
Why stick Amir in the ring with someone he has no chance against at this stage of his career?
****** move for Amir in my opinon

Would you rather him fight Willie Limond again? If he beats Kotelnik, Hatton is a winnable fight for Khan. JMM is a little too soon, but hey, that's boxing.

I would much rather see Amir in the ring JMM or Hatton because i think they would both eat him alive,
I dont like Amir Khan i think he is a serious hypejob but a few more fights with Freddie Roach in his corner and he could be something big and for the big guys.
At the moment he is being pushed around by Frank Warren

How is a guy who nobody likes or rates a hypejob? I don't understand. I only like Khan because of his exciting style. I'm under no illusions. At least he is testing himself now and trying to make big fights happen.

yeah i agree man looking at khans career its obvious hes avoided fighting big puncher and other hungry champs. in his fights at LW he was fighting tough opposition, who had good skills, a good chin but limited power. they were tailor made for khan to learn his craft but never did warren throw him in with a puncher.

recently he seems to have gone down the another road; fighting overblown and washed up legends - such as barrera and recently hes been linked to a fight with morales.

it just disappoints me that more deserving fighters like witter, cleverly, kell brook, joe murray aren't getting the recongition that they deserve.

JMM and Hatton are both way out of Khans league and both would destroy him.

I don't blame Khan for avoiding big punchers though. His chin is terrible. However, there are plenty of good world champions out there, who aren't huge punchers for him to fight while he works on his defence

He has only fought one washed up fighter in Barrera, but make no mistake, that was a risky fight. Barrera was only a year removed from taking Pacquaio the distance, and still had enough to beat Khan if he fought the right fight. Unfortunately, the cut happened and the fight was stopped. I still think Khan would of had to much for Barrera if the fight went on. But I guess we will never know. Even though Morales is rumoured, I can't see that fight happening. Hatton or JMM are more likely to happen, and if Khan fought either of those in a first title defence, he would deserve major respect.

I disagree with your last paragraph though. With the exeption of Witter, each and every one of those fighters you have mentioned have had much easier fights than Khan. Kell Brook hasn't fought anybody. Cleverly also hasn't stepped up yet. And John Murray is coming off a hard win over Lawton who Khan stopped just under two years ago.

In his last few fights Khan has really stepped up his opposition.
