Arturo Gatti: Another Warrior Gone Too Soon

By Jake Donovan - The blow that causes the most damage is the one you never see coming.

It’s a phrase that has become clichéd amongst recent boxing generations, but still rings true in the ring.

Arturo “Thunder” Gatti absorbed thousands of blows over the course of his 16-year career. However, the final sequence of punishment he suffered took place outside of a boxing ring, and in a hotel room in Porto de Galinhas, Brazil, where he was found dead on July 11, 2009.

He was 37 years young, two years removed from retiring from the ring with a record of 40-9 (31KO) and alphabet title reigns in two separate weight classes.

Details are still coming out as obituaries are being written. For the moment, his wife Amanda Rodrigues is being charged with first-degree murder by Brazilian police, after discovering numerous inconsistencies in her testimony upon the discovery of Gatti’s dead body in their hotel room. R.I.P. Arturo Gatti...first they marry you, then they bury you. If exciting fights got you into the hall of fame, then he's a lock. I don't think he did enough to get in, but I will NEVER forget his fights...that's a real warrior! If only super-skilled fighters like Floyd had his heart.

sounds cruel but I think it's good he passed away soon. He took a lot of punishment throughout his outstanding career. All those shots to the head would eventually lead to Parkinson's, slurred speech etc. I would hate to see him with Parkinson's. He is in a better position right now in heaven. To God we belong, and to God we return.

He was a strong guy, besides a little slurred speech I don't think he was in danger of Parkinson's.

Can't say I'm happy he went out this ***in young and in this ***in way.

What's wrong with some of you fools? To try in spin a brutal murder into a good thing due to his punishment in the ring and a future date with parkinson's is just insane. Gatti gave all he had to this sport and deserved to enjoy the fruit of his labor while he was still young and healthy. Flyboy you're an ass for trying to spin his death into some silver lining. This chick should be burned at the stake!
