Fool Me Once… Notes From Fight Night at Sunrise

By Lyle Fitzsimmons - SUNRISE, Fla. – You know, it’s not all that often in life where a guy can look back at something and say, “Wow, I guess I really got fooled by all that nonsense, huh?”

I’ve got to admit, I’m feeling that way today about Vic Darchinyan.

I’d watched the little man fight a few times on television, and, after digesting opinions from several trusted sources, I figured it a worthwhile endeavor to pack up the computer bag, load up the Malibu and make the trek down the Florida coast to take his act in with my own two eyes.

Now let’s be honest, it was hardly much of a task. And I’d have probably headed down regardless of who was headlining the Don King card at the BankAtlantic Center on Saturday night.

Say what you will about his track record, but King’s shows are top notch in their attention to detail. The credentials are always in order. The wireless Internet is always working. And communications guru Alan Hopper is always making the rounds to see that everything else is as it should be.

Combine all that into a mini-vacation in the sand and waves with the world’s cutest 15-month-old beach bum and trusty dog… and it’s what I’d call a no-brainer. [details]

Great read but it's too critical of vic. Those victories over Arce and Mijares are real not imarginary. He had a power advantage over them. As soon as they tasted his power, they forgot their gameplan. Though I would agree that once he could not bully his way thru ... he loses.

I think Vic is an overhyped bum! Reason: he don't want to fight Donaire to get even with him because he is afraid to get exposed as an overhyped bum! All reasons by Shaw of not allowing Vic to fight Donaire are just nothing but an excuse so as not to spoil the fun!

        Notheless, King Kong exposed him!

Since when a bum won 4 different belts in two divisions??

          Vic is everything except a bum,I agree he's overated,he isn't a top 10 P4P and I always said it.
But I still have him LIKE BEFORE in my top 20 P4P list.

Agbeko's win is overated, maybe he won 9 rounds on a scorecard but not mine.
Cuts and scratches on Vic face are especially du to headbutts.
Agbeko punches were really unaccurate but I admit he still landed the cleaner punches...

Vic was too heavy and slow,he overlooked agbeko and so lost by decision. He was heavier than Agbeko altough he's the smaller man.I knew who was in the best shape and 'll win when I saw that.

Why would they give Michael Jackson a memorial 10 count? I thought that was an honor given to fighters or at least those involved with boxing.

I was there and have to say it was a sloppy fight, tough to watch to be honest. The Demarco fight prior to was good up until Demarco's opponent decided to take a dive.

I actually liked the little kids dancing Michael Jackson......

                  Indeed.

Vic is lucky enough fighting Agbeko that night. If he fought Izzy, Rafa, Juanma or Donaire he'd be in coma. I guess the guy was just overhyped. But he has some skills though. Some raw power and unorthodox techniques. Nonetheless, he's just too ****y and really needs to back up his words. Coz if he doesn't, he gets pounded in the ring and in articles like this. o_O

                    Jackson

The Jackson 10 count was a Don King thing. He promoted the Victory Tour in 1984 and the card was essentially dedicated to Michael's memory. His picture was on the press credentials and the press kit cover. The Gatti thing sort of popped up that evening, so he was included as well in the 10 count with Arguello. Because Gatti was obviously a boxing icon, it seems weird that Jackson would take precedence over Gatti. But King was a Jackson family friend and had planned the tribute in advance, so that pretty well explains it.
