What do you se going down and how does the elimination work with 6 fihters and not 4 or 8?....Lefty
I think it's such a great concept. You're not out if you lose you're first fight I love that. Maybe Bute and Balszay are missing but the line-up is still excellent. Some great fights are waiting for us.

Kessler has to start the favourite. We'll know more after his mandatory against Perdomo is over with. Let's hope he doesn't lose which might put the entire tourney in jeopardy.

I don't know enough about the 2 Andrés to give a good account of their chances, but they must be regarded as outsiders for sure. I still like Taylor's chances. He might be the no.2 or 3 guy.

Who have you got and how would you gauge the olympians chances lefty?

The tournament, which will consist of nine preliminary bouts followed by the semifinals and final, begins Oct. 10 and is supposed to finish in May or June of 2011.

Win or lose, the six fighters will each fight at least three times with the top four advancing to the semifinals based on their point totals. Fighters get two points for a win, an additional point if it's by knockout and one point for a draw. There are all sorts of contingencies for situations such as a no contest or a tie in points. Contractually, mandatory bouts cannot interfere with a tournament fight.

The tournament is scheduled to begin with a split-site doubleheader on Oct. 10. In England, Froch will face Dirrell and in Germany, Abraham will face Taylor.

On Nov. 7, probably in Oakland, Kessler will defend against Ward. Other matches include Abraham against Dirrell in January in the U.S.; Froch against Kessler in March in Europe; Ward against Taylor in spring 2010 in the U.S.; Ward facing his Olympic teammate in summer 2010 in the U.S.; Froch against Abraham in summer 2010 in Europe; and Kessler against Taylor in the U.S. in fall 2010.

The semifinals would take place in January 2011 with the final to be held in the U.S. in May or June.

Hope this helps fella's shame Froch an Kessler meet in the second round as I'd love to see them both in the final...could still happen depending on others results tho

I like it. Even if you lose, you get another shot. But the cream will rise to the top at the end anyway

Honestly Balzsay might have a belt, but he´s not that good. Every fighter in the tournament would beat him handily. He´s also managed by Universum, who carefully maneuvered him to the WBO title. If we waited for Universum to agree to any terms, Balzsay would be fighting Mikkel Kessler Junior. Balzsay will have his hands full with Robert Stieglitz in his next fight. Then he´ll attempt to follow in the footsteps of his infamous countryman Zsolt Erdei and such inspiring stablemates as Felix Sturm.

Bute is an unfortunated casualty, but the 3 vs. 3 Ryder Cup format of USA vs. Europe sells better. Showtime will keep Bute around and build him as a viable option to the winner or even one of the fighters dropping out after the round robin. Unless of course Bute really declined the invitation, at which stage I could see Showtime dropping Bute from their programming schedule.

boxing has needed something like this where the best of the division fight each other instead of mandatory challenges by sanctioning bodies against second rate fighters.

hopefully 'the cobra' will bring it home but if not kessler

                  cant wait

Kessler is going to take this, he's the most complete fighter of the six. Taylor or Abraham would be his tougher matches but he beats them both. Dirrell, Ward or Froch would all get their asses handed to them. Kessler will win this tournament.
