He may be more athletic and offensively talented than his brother, but that's it. Vitali has the "right stuff" and a good chin. Vlad's chin and his heart was suspect ever since he was stopped by Ross Purrity. He would never be a major force because he doesn't have heart, which is worse than not having a chin. His defense sucks, too. He was able to mask everything with his spectacular offensive attack. Now he is exposed and a knockout waiting to happen. Right now he's nothing more than a live gatekeeper.Originally posted by StickmanI haven't seen Valuev fight yet, but if you're referring to Vlad....He's actually much more talented than his brother Vitali, and if he hadn't had his confidence blown out against Sanders, he'd be a major force to be reckoned with in the division today. His problem is that he's young, and wasn't ready for someone to attack him like Sanders did, and it ruined him, at least for now, and maybe even permanently. I hope that, after he gets a few more years on him, he'll mature mentally, regain his confidence, and be ready to make a big, sweeping comback. Only time will tell. But until (or unless) he gets his confidence back, he won't have a chin....a fighter might have confidence and no chin, but a fighter will never have a chin without self confidence.Comment

I think Wlad has more heart than people give him credit for. He wouldn't have beaten the count against Brewster, but he beat it against Purrity, and his corner stopped it, he was ready to continue. Against Sanders, he was knocked down what, like three or four times, and beat the count every time, but the ref stopped it, certainly a good stoppage. I think he'll end up being like a four or five time champ, because they'll keep giving him shots against guys he can beat, and someone else will keep taking it away from him lolComment

Well, he's a kid, in his twenties, and some kids don't mature mentally, and gain the true confidence of a man until 30 or later. Whether he'll ever be worth watching again remains to be seen, but he certainly isn't ready to be written off. Yes, Vitali has the heart and chin of a champ, but there's nothing that says he had the same mental toughness at his brother's age. Had Vitali been 5 or 7 years younger when he fought Lewis, he may have caved in with the first solid shot he took...we just don't know. Vlad certainly had better opponents in his boxing career than Vitali, at least until the last few years, just look at their records and compare the names.Originally posted by Sister SledgeHe may be more athletic and offensively talented than his brother, but that's it. Personally, I think the kid was thrown in against some very dangerous opponents just a little too quick, and his managers and promoters are to blame for that.Comment

I agree completely, and about Valuev, he is very large, but seems to lack the physical strength to efficiently move himself around. He does have a good punch output, considering his size, but in terms of coordination and skill, he makes Wlad look like Ezzard Charles lolComment

I think Wlad has plenty of heart and I scratch my head every time someone criticizes his courage. What Wlad really lacks is nerves; he completely panicks whenever he gets tagged by a puncher.
The problem is, a lack of nerves can be just as irreversible and just as damning as a lack of heart.Comment
