02/12/05- RabbitPunchBoxing has learned that newly crowned undisputed Welterweight champ Zab Judah (33-2) will be making his first madatory defense by taking on IBF #1 ranked contender Cosme Rivera (28-7-2) on April 2nd. This will be on the same card as the unification bout between WBA Cruiserweight champ Wayne Braithwaite (21-0) and WBC champ Jean-Marc Mormeck (30-2).

Former WBO Super Flyweight champ Fernando Montiel (29-1-1) takes on current WBO Super Flyweight champ Ivan Hernandez (19-0-1) on April 14th on HBO Latino. Hernandez gained recognition by knocking out Mark "Too Sharp" Johnson last September. Montiel's only loss was to Johnson in 2003.

I think this means that Zab is trying to fight fast so he can hurry up and get his madatory out of the way so he can keep his titles while at the same time he can fight around the time that Zoo is fighting. Then he can get the Zoo match or if Oscar comes back it will make DLH think about Zab first since he has the titles and the bigger name in the states.

Props to Zab, for keeping so active. I'd be on vacation if I were him.

Good for Juda. DLT has it right. He is lining himself up for bigger fights (or at least his management is). It's good to see a champ willing to do what it takes. Juda is proving himself worthy of his titles.

As scary as this is for me to say but I agree 100%, Zab has never been a fighter that I liked or cared to see fight (with the exception of him getting cracked by Tszyu hence the av), but he may have finally grown up and may just be on his way to being a truely dedicated champion that will actually defend his titles instead of just letting the belts be stripped from him!

If Zab is truely seeing his own potential for what it really is then he could imo be at the starting point of quite a stretch of big money, big name, big headlining showcase type ppv bouts, I always thought that he had real talent albeit raw and wild but talent nonetheless, imo he has always had it, it's just been buried under his ego and a huge pile of excuses. But maybe not any more

meh, you say he's 'keeping active' but what he's really doing is just beating up a bum so he can have one year after the next fight to relax, that guy poses zero threat to judah, im talkin rd 1 ko here. he knows the next fight is no challenge.
