C'mon, this tourney would've never happened 10 years ago. There wasn't that much talent back then. But a 4 man tourney of Ottke, Calzaghe, Jones, and Reid or Glen Johnson would've been nice to see. Joe didn't become champion until he fought Lacy, and given his unwillingness to do so earlier, does lead one to speculate he wouldn't enter a tournament like this. But with Showtime generating 50million dollars to pay out to the fighters for what comes out to a dozen fights. Thats roughly 4 million per fighter give some more for the ones that advance and some away from the ones that don't. It's not a bad payday. Plus the winner's money generating abilities afterwards would be astronomical. Don't forget that there will be gates to these events which will almost all sell out and the sponsorship money (most likely headed towards Showtime's pockets) there is a small fortune to be made. Abraham and Kessler are risking a great amount of earning potential as would Calzaghe had he joined the rukous, but the other fighters are greatly increasing theirs. It's a high risk/reward scenario. And one that Calzaghe might've gone a long with had he still be an active SMW. But he hasn't since the Kessler fight. If he entered it today, he would be a top 4 for sure, possibly off to the finals, but I wouldn't guarantee that.

If Kessler gets beaten, hell if he gets KO'd by one of these guys in the tournament that will seriously taint Calzaghe's legacy, no hate here just stating facts. Lacy will have been beaten by Taylor (hell, some believe Griffin beat Lacy) who has more or less become irrelevant in the sport and Kessler will have been beaten by one of Calzaghe's contenders.

If someone would beat Kessler's victor or Kessler if he is the victor I for one would rate that fighter higher than Calzaghe. If Kessler wins this Calzaghe will look like one hell of a champion
