Wlads chin is average for a heavyweight!!!!

Wlad's chin is pretty good but I always felt Peter got way too much credit for his power.
When he stepped up in competition he was 6-3 with 2 ko's in his last 9 fights. The two ko's were against known victims Maskaev and Julius Long.
It wasn't like he was messing up superstars.
The Jeremy Williams ko was vicious sure, but Brian Nielsen and Henry Akinwande already showed Williams wasn't granite chinned.
All the same, Wlad seems to take a punch pretty well and unless the punchers are carrying heavy heavy thunder.
But he hasn't had to deal with that in a while, and has pretty much neutralized everyone.Comment

There was only 1 legit knockdown in the Wlad/Peter fight. The other 2 were from illegal rabbit punches and Wlad was off balance.
Wlad took a lot of big punches in that fight and still dominated Peter, he took another flush monster left hook on the chin in the 12th round and was unphased, he came back right after that punch and badly hurt Peter with a huge left hook. Peter is lucky it was a 12 round fight, if it was a 15 round fight like back in the day he would've gotten KTFO in the 13th round by Wlad.Last edited by Klitschko2011; 07-10-2009, 12:07 AM.Comment

It was a nasty KO but to be honest Jeremy Williams has one of the worst chins of all time.
People can criticize Wladimir but he can take a much better punch than Williams who is the true definition of a glass jaw. Possessed some talent but his chin held him back.
He was not a big heavyweight either, used to compete against the likes of Montell Griffin in the amateurs and came back as a cruiserweight recently.Comment

A bit below average, perhaps, certainly not the pure glass it's made out to be. He has adjusted his way of fighting to continue to compete at the highest level, at the sacrifice of a fair bit of entertainment. It would be interesting to see how he would cope with a Sanders type attack today, though I do think a pretty vicious headbutt helped faze Wlad sufficiently that he didn't know what hit him after that.Comment

Yeah, I'll agree it's average. Not poor by any means but not fantastic. I agree that your post raises a good question, I just don't particularly know what else to say on the matter.Comment

His chin cannot be that bad if he has gotten this far, keeping in mind these are huge men throwing alot of weight in their punches at HW. Even if he did have a glass jaw, he has developed a style now seemingly to perfection which gets around that defect. Some people find it boring, but I like the methodical breakdown of his opponents. Too often fighters get over hyped because of a few quick flashy ko's, and we don't get enough of a look at them in order to notice flaws or other attributes.Comment

many of the fighters that come on the scene with flashy ko's are the quickest to get exposed. wlads ko's are very structured, you cant say the same about someone like miranda who is just banking on landing a giant bomb. His chin cannot be that bad if he has gotten this far, keeping in mind these are huge men throwing alot of weight in their punches at HW. as far as the shots peter landed, i wouldnt say he landed any MONSTER shots. the upper cut lewis landed on vitali, thats a monster shot. god just thinking about taking that shot and staying awake, vitali's head must have felt like it was gonna explode haha, no one can dog him after he took that ****ing shot. peter landed a few solid shots but nothing that would truly test a chin, however if his chin was pure glass, surely he would have went down. regardless, if he had a glass jaw or not, hes not getting hit and id say thats a good path to take, especially with longevity in mind.Comment
