Promoting IS what Golden Boy does, you think promoting fights is just getting the fighters together? LOL, it's signing fighters to your stable, it's pushing yourself to someone like HBO, Showtime or ESPN.

It's doing a million other things in the background that you obviously don't know **** about.

I laugh at youngsters like you that think you know what Oscar is doing, I think the guy has done pretty good on his own. Goldne Boy is the future of boxing and that's a good thing because instead of seeing Victor Ortiz demolish someone we have no interest in, they actually are testing the kid.

Isn't that what people want? Competative fights? And now we are complaining about that to?....man
Name one young fighter that GB has signed from 0-0 and built into a world champion? You can't. I know more about promoting than you think and you are truly showing your lack of knowledge.

Pushing yourself to HBO, Showtime or ESPN? PLEASE!

You don't think Oscar made HBO commit all of these dates to him due to the fact he made them untold millions due to the Mayweather and Pac Man fights? You need to open your eyes.

good post; I also agree, a prime Shane (first Oscar fight) would whoop on Cotto.

              Classy come back

              EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: LAMONT PETERSON
              By G. Leon

GL: I imagine I owe the honor of this phone call to Oscar De La Hoya's recent interview, so let's get right to it. What would you like to say in response to the Golden Boy? "I would just like to first say that I'm not mad at him and I didn't get insulted by his comments. I want to know two things, why does he think that and why did my name come up in the conversation in the first place? If you're mad at somebody else about something they said, keep it with them. If I'm mad at you I'm not going to punch somebody else in the face, I'm going to punch you in the face. If his beef or problem is with somebody else, I wish he would just keep my name out of his mouth."

GL: What did you think of Victor Ortiz's performance against Marcos Maidana and were you surprised Ortiz quit?

Lamont Peterson: "I was very surprised that he quit. All of the fighters in my gym feel that going out on your back is better than laying down or quitting. I'm always going to fight until the final bell and if I get knocked out in the process, than that's what's going to happen. Fighters shouldn't quit, they should go out on their shield."

              GL: What's next for you?

LP: "I'm supposed to get the winner of Timothy Bradley and Nate Campbell. But this is boxing and you know how it goes, anything can happen. But I'm definitely hoping that's how it turns out. Hopefully I can get the winner in November or December."

GL: Do you plan on fighting again between now and then?

LP: "I would like to, but if not, I'll be fine. I'm still training hard like if I was going to fight next week. It don't matter, I'll be ready."

GL: Since you've signed with Top Rank you haven't been as busy as you were with Prize Fight. Does that concern you?

LP: "Not really a concern. I like to fight on a monthly basis really, but I understand that it's tough now because each fight is strategical and meaningful to get me on the top of the division. I want to fight for the title and once I'm champion the pace will pick up again so I'm not too worried about that right now."

GL: If you were to fight the winner of Bradley-Campbell next, would the seven or eight months off between fights concern you at all?

LP: "It's all mental. I'd make sure that mentally, I don't let that get to me. Boxing is boxing and I do this everyday. I'm in the gym every day practicing my craft, so it's not going to hurt."

GL: Can you tell us why the winner of Bradley-Campbell woudln't be too much too soon?

LP: "Because I've been working to get to this point and eventually I have to fight these guys. It's not like I've never been in the ring with a guy on their level. It might be sparring or an amatuer fight, but it's still all the same. If it's a title fight it's different, but I have to stay focused on fighting the man that's in front of me, then I'll have nothing to worry about."

GL: Who do you like in the August 1st Showtime fights?

LP: "I really don't have no predictions, but I'm kind of rooting for the young guys. I know they'll be around with me, so the more they build their names up and I build my name up, the bigger fights can be later on."

              GL: Closing thoughts?

LP: "Look out for me this year. I would like to just say, there's a reason why people in boxing aren't mentioning my name, I'm just wishing that it stays like that. I want to thank all of my fans, especially in Memphis and Mississippi, keep on supporting me and I'm going to become champ. I won't let you down."

GL: Has the thought of boxing again once crossed your mind since your retirement?

ODLH: "No. I'm very satisfied, grateful and content with what I've accomplished. I'm comfortable where I'm at. Believe me that once I get going and start promoting 100% it's going to be very, very soon that things are going to change. Things are going to change because we've only just begun. I want to comment on teh remarks Bob Arum made. What gives him the right to comment on Victor and belittle him. If he doesn't believe in Victor, he has a piece of Victor, let him go. If you're going to belittle him and talk bad about him just let him go. He says he should have fought Peterson, but what kind of fight would that be? Another first round knockout? We're not about that. We're about competitive fights for our fighters."

GL: So you think Oritz would have knocked out Peterson in 1?

ODLH: "Absolutely. In 1 or 2. That's how good Ortiz is. Maidana is, I'm telling you any fighter we put him in with is going to get knocked out."

GL: Will Golden Boy work with Maidana moving forward?

ODLH: "We've spoken to his promoter in Europe and yes, we will be promoting him in the States and put in against competitive fights. He's exciting and he'll beat anybody at 140."

GL: Bernard Hopkins told me he's done fighting. Do you think we'll ever see him in the ring again?

ODLH: "Well, my partners Richard and Bernard have been talking and obviously Richard is one to think big and outside the box, and I'm sure he's got something brewing for the near future. Hopkins can perform till he's 50 if he wanted to. He's anxious to fight and his next move is going to be an exciting one."

GL: The last I heard Ricky Hatton was looking to make his next fight a big one if he decided to fight again. Is that still the case and when might we expect him back in the ring?

ODLH: "It's a matter of the Hatton's deciding who they want to fight. We'll come up with different options. Hatton wants big fights and that's an indication that he's a real fighter and that's what he was born to do. As his promoters here in the States, we're going to work as hard as we can for him and get him the best available deal so he can move on with his career."

                GL: Closing thoughts?

ODLH: "We have some exciting fights lined up and announcements for the near future. We're not here to baby our fighers, we're here to match them the right way and make sure that everybody wins. Boxing is a sport where if you have these one sided fights and try to protect your fighters and do little PPV shows against HBO on the same night, it hurts the sport and we're not about that."

When you listen to Oscar over the past few months, he almost always comes across as defensive and bitter.
