Are Slick Fighters A Thing Of The Past Now?

I somehow agree with this at some point, when i was younger i've always enjoyed watching Ali & Leonard fight and i've always thought that to be effective in boxing, a boxer should have this kind of attributes, a deffense first style. That's why when tyson came into the scene, a puncher/brawler with speed, I always thought that a young Ali would easily school that kind of fighter.

But now with manny evolving into a totaly diferrent kind of fighter, from a brawler/puncher to a puncher/boxer kind of style and with tremendous speed. I don't think being slick is enough to beat this guy, coz even if your fast enough to avoid some of manny's punches you will be eventually get cought by most of them.

Think about it, at one point in the past roberto duran did fight and win over ray leonard by a decision, a puncher winning over a slick fighter. Manny brings in more than a big punch now, he has more combos, he has two hands power now, quicker on the feet and head movement and doesn't want to get hit anymore. And he throws his punches to damn fast and with force that he looked like he was unbalanced at times.

When profesional boxing started brawlers were the main players coz you have to KO the other guy for them to stop the fight. When they limit the rounds to 15 the quality of fights changed, there still some succesfull brawlers but boxers that wins on point started to crop in. And when they limit the rounds more into 12 rounders for a championship, somehow just winning on points is the best to go in boxing. For pure boxing fans its really great to watch two boxers punching and slipping from punches as well, but in some instances this also resulted to some boring matches where in the fighters just run around each other, holding, clinching and throwing 10 punches each for every round.
This are not boxing!!! Fans wants a fight!!!

And with the emergence of UFC/MMA, an evolution of new boxing fighters has to emerge as well. Now you have The Pacman for that, he is he blueprint for future fighters, he may look raw and rough right now but we have to start somewhere.

In the future, boxing has to produce more offensive first fighters, more exciting fighters who slip of a punch while throwing a punch and connects at the same split second. This is the future now where deffense is you offense, enough with fighters that block the shots, run around and hope to slip a punch later before the time expires. I am not saying that fighters should punch it out with no D, but to punch with force while elluding the other fighters punches is a good thing to watch..

    Think about it...

Im not reading all that. Make another post that is direct to the point....

I will answer the topic's question though. No, they aren't a thing of the past. We just havent seen a talented boxer that is "slick" emerge since Mayweather.

No, there's always going to be slicksters and aggressive fighters.

And then you've got aggressive guys who have some slickness as well, like Duran.

I'm not even sure I'd really call Leonard a slickster anyway. "Defense-first" (not that it makes you slick) is not what I have in mind when I think of Leonard.

It may be one of a few things; either people don't want to risk putting their chips on a fighter relying on rare God given abilities or there simply just hasn't been any new borns with prodigal skills...lol.
