By Jake Donovan - Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.
Eddie Chambers is certainly no fool. His last trip to Germany resulted in a disappointing performance and the lone loss of his professional career.
The American heavyweight came fully prepared for his second trip to Deutschland, weighing a near-career low 209 lb. and delivering the best performance of his career. Two knockdowns paved the way for a whitewash of previously unbeaten Alexander Dimitrenko, earning Chambers a future mandatory title shot against heavyweight king Wladimir Klitschko.
The bout took place at the Color Line Arena in Hamburg, Germany.
Dimitrenko’s massive height and reach advantages threatened to be an issue early, with the undefeated Ukrainian spending much of the round working behind the jab. Chambers quickly found a workaround, coming through with an uppercut to set up a flurry , by far the best sequence of the round for the visiting American.
Chambers had no problem tacking the role of aggressor, taking the fight to Dimitrenko early in the second. The Philly-based heavyweight once again worked his way inside, at one point wedging his shoulder in Dimitrenko’s midsection, literally lifting him off of the canvas. Much of the round was spent with Chambers on the pursuit, while Dimitrenko far too often threw only one punch at a time.
The instructions from Chambers’ corner in between rounds were to remain on the offensive, noting Dimitrenko’s nose was beginning to redden, and to treat his Rudolph-like presence as a bullseye for his right hand power shots. [details]
