Looking at Joe Louis vs Billy Conn gave me new light on recent weight drama

Honestly, at this point. If you take a fight, or you desire to fight someone, and they move up to take you on, if there is alot of money and pride and glory on the line, i dont see what the problem is. I dont have a problem with the cotto/pac fight, even at this 145 weight, because cotto is taking this fight, and hes taking it for money, hes not being forced.

Same with JMM. JMM challanged floyd, floyd holds no welterweight title. However the fight is a win/win, since JMM can showcase himself against another top fighter in the sport, and floyd mayweather can see where he is as a fighter.

Looking at that long thread about mayweather/jmm made me realize 2 things.

While im dissapointed mayweather isnt taking on said welterweights, there is nothing that obligates him to do so, since he holds no belt, there is no standard being applied to him other than the publics personal agenda.

Also, Opinions tend to change when fights happen. Many fight fans on here are very ****tional and when the fight happens, either way this board will shut down, and it will get talked about, and the potential setup matches are lucrative for both at this point on whoeever becomes the victor. If mayweather no longer has it, well find out, if JMM is truely the greatest fighter of this era, well find out.

Conn moving up from lightheavy, 15 lbs up, to take on joe louis made me realize that fighters do this because they get paid and there is oppurtunity to elevate yourself in the action. I know many of you would rather throw out juvenile insults, but looking at the past, this kind of thing happened ALOT. That fight was one of the greatest fights in heavyweight history, there is no telling what could happen September 19th. Im willing to give the fight a chance because of this. Considering Conn's whole strategy was to come in light and use his speed etc, nobody was sitting around like "ZOMG HES NEVER BEEN AT HEAVYWEIGHT WTF".

Fighters do what they do, they move up in weight, sometimes too much. too soon etc. We will see what is in store for JMM
