Did Tommy Hearns really have a bad chin?I

I hear it all the time and I just don't think it's true. While not a great chin, I wouldn't call it poor by any means. Let's look at his KO losses

First KO loss: Sugar Ray Leonard round 14. This was round 14 and it had more to do with the fact that ran out of gas than him having a bad chin.

Second KO loss: Marvin Hagler round 3. I don't care who you are, if you fight marvin hagler at that pace, chances are you're getting KTFO. Hearns ate some MONSTER bombs before finally going down. He fought the wrong fight.

Third KO loss: Iran Barkley round 3. Barkley was a pretty big puncher at the time, but for whatever reason he just had Tommy's number.

Hearns had a good chin nothing great though. I don't see how peopel here claim he was chinny as if he got stopped by guys with mediocre power.

No I get annoyed whenever I hear people say he had a glass chin. I agree with every point you made.

Also the Hearns vs Haggler fight made me realise that I really wouldn't want to fight Haggler. The guy is tough like granite and will pressure and maul you.

To me he is a nightmare for any boxer that relies on power alone.

          He had a terrible chin!

And why "Free Kirkland"? The kid is a thug and doesn't deserve to compete as a professional athlete after his pending incarceration. A guy like that is half the reason boxing gets the black eye it does?

Not glass but not good either.

I dont think Jermain Taylor has a glass jaw but he still gets knocked out, i dont believe Fernando Vargas had a glass jaw, but he still got KTFO by (3) 147 pounders, big punchers or not.

When your stamina goes your are easier to hurt its that simple, and some guys have naturally bad stamina Vargas/Taylor, and when that is combined with an okay chin, not glass but just okay, its a recipe for disaster imo.

Vargas gassed against Winky/DLH and Quartey. Have you ever noticed how Vargas finished all of those fights with the other guy coming on strong and him starting to fade ? Vargas won the Wink fight by fighting in spurts/ flurries.

            Thats my take anyway.

He actually looked fairly durable as a light heavyweight against Barkley (the second time) and Virgil Hill.

Maybe built up his legs a bit? Do think his skinny legs were a factor as my old boxing coach used to tell me you absorb a lot of a punch in the legs. Probably since been found to be nonsense but always sticks with me and did always make me look at Hearns legs when he started and wonder.
At least thats my excuse for looking at his legs!
