Does Pacman have an effective uppercut?

He doesn't have a particularly good one, nor does he use it much. But, if he tries to throw it like that it is highly possible that he could get countered and knocked out himself. If you want to get knocked out in boxing, the best way to do it is to throw an uppercut from the outside.
Luckily, Pac had obviously beaten the guy up enough to do it without too much worry and was quick enough to land it also. But, it would not be a good idea to try that type of shot against Cotto. He either needs to use counter uppercuts as Cotto comes in close, such as Judah did, or make sure he throws them up close when he is attacking and Cotto has his high guard up.
But, the shot he does throw with a little bit more regularity is the right uppercut and this could be very effective against Cotto. It is a great shot for a southpaw to use against a righty, especially one who has the 'ear muff' guard of Cotto.
Because of the high hands up near the temple and the way the left forearm is in line with the right hand of a southpaw opponent, by feinting and then coming up through the guard with the right hand uppercut, it can get straight through without being seen and crack right on the left side of the chin. Brutal KO shot if you can get it in and it is a very good shot for a southpaw to land on a righty of Cotto's style.
I imagine that Pac will also be throwing quite a lot of right hooks to the body followed by a right uppercut in succession. The classic Tyson combination. When PAc gets in and flurries with a combo he can either start it or end it with a right hook to the body, which will bring Cotto's head down as he bends over and tightens up, which will then leave his chin exposed between the guard which a right uppercut can then get straight through to.
I doubt he will get a left counter uppercut going by the time they fight as it is not something he has ever really done and all the supposed 'new' stuff that Roach is showing him is just stuff that Pac already did, but not often and not very well. His right uppercut is one punch that he does use and uses it reasonably well and I think this will play a part in his fight plan.
Right hook, straight left, right uppercut through the guard. Straight left feint followed by a right uppercut through the guard blinded by the opponents left glove and forearm. Right hook to the body, followed by right uppercut. This type of stuff I think will be worked on.Comment
