The Sandinistas were good people back in the day and their struggle was a very important one, although some of their tactics were not always great but overall they were good. There was a reason you know, why The Clash named their 4th album Sandinista!
They are more reformist these days and not nearly as revolutionary as they were back then, which is a shame.
The CIA and the Contras were the true enemies to the Nicaraguan people, not the Sandinistas who fought for equality amongst the people and to stop the exploitation by the rich ruling elite and other rich powerful nations such as the US.Last edited by ИATAS; 07-01-2009, 02:47 PM.Comment

Fighting against oppression and economic slavery as the Sandinistas was a very good thing. Latin america in general has suffered terribly over the years as a direct result of capitalism, it's undeniable. All throughout latin america you see the same thing - a tiny percentage of the rich elite own not only the vast majority of wealth but the land as well, the gap between rich & poor is has been ridiculous. The assassination of ********ically elected presidents by the united states, the toppling of ********ically elected governments by the united states, the slaughter of tens of thousands by the united states, unfair economic restrictions by the united states, etc. etc. etc. only adds more reason for revolution all throughout latin america.Comment

my mom tells me people died of starvation left and right back in the day. the sandinistas severed all ties to the U.S. and basically the people were the ones getting ***ed over with famine. "everyone is equal", yeah, equally ***ed
