best post so far in the threadI'm a fan of Cotto and I respect his welterweight resume to the fullest, what I don't agree with is when his fans cling to his hard earned and fought battles, saying he completely dominated them, like in the case of Mosley and Clottey!!Both were very hard fought fights,in which the judges gave Cotto the edge,no problem with that, but they were close hard fights and Cotto did not own them!!There is no mile gap between the top 3 welterweights,it is the hardest division in boxing and whether Cotto is 1 or 2,he is no less than that in the most talented weight, nothing to exagerate,or take for granted!!Cotto has the power to sleep the Pacman, can he do it,is left to be seen!!
i think what hurts alot of boxers reps is actually their fans, or rather the nuthuggers. some fans of cotto make him out to be the greatest thing since sliced bread, the outlandish and sometimes ridiculous claims of these nuthuggers leads to other fans adopting a critical (sometimes overly critical) view of cotto's acheivements. however it has been the same with all the big fighters like calzaghe, mayweather, pacman etc.
i think when you look at cotto's career objectively you realize that he beat the man in the WW division (SSM) and yes it was close but he arguably did enough to squaek out the decision. his wins over other B level fighters like judah and quintana deserve respect but his performance and win over clottey imo cemented his career as a HOF'er.Comment

Miguel Cotto and Rodney Dangerfield would make a great duet.Cotto is getting NO respect from everyone on these predictions. He's getting less respect than oscar, hatton, JMM, etc. Cotto has had the toughest fights last 3-4 year and not because he has done bad but because he is fighting top fighters...top welterweights. As a Cotto fan i hope it continues and hope cotto is writing them all down....lolComment

i never understood this garbage about the mosley fight being close. It was a clear victory for Cotto. it was competitive, but there was no robbery and def no "squeaking by". He won, and he made Mosley look like his face got hit by a truck.Comment

Cotto does get respect, it's just from the right people. NSB is a crazy place, but there are some great logical posters, and there are some crazy stans/nuthuggers that make you envy thier favourite fighter just because of their obnoxiousness.
All boxers should get respect. It takes balls to step into a ring. Pac and Cotto fully deserve applauds from everyone as they continuously step up to the greatest challenges available to them, fighting the best fighters their respected divisions have had to offer.
The 'haters' as we like to call them, are not fans of Boxing. They are fans of Boxers. Mainly due to nationality.Comment
