      I disagree completely.

Being the televised Main Event for an HBO broadcast is a once in a lifetime opportunity for most fighters and Juarez just let it go by the wayside like a little b*tch.

Not even a month ago HBO turned down Ruslan Chagaev vs. Wladamir Klitschko. Klitschko signed to fight a 25-0 Southpaw World Champion on 3 weeks notice after training for a wild swinging David Haye for 2 months.

Klitschko did everything in his power to secure the best possible opponent, one who posed a serious threat, and HBO turned it down.

Juarez, with the chance to be on HBO, turns down a mediocre and very beatable opponent and misses out on being the main event of a fight card with a great crowd that followed a thrilling FOTY candidate.

Lets be honest here, Juarez skipped out on the fight because he no longer believes in his own ability.

He felt there is a serious chance he could lose this fight and miss out on the bigger $$$$$ down the road.

Yeah he's a nice guy, but don't expect fans to support that kind of career move. Ultimately he is fighting for one last payday, for himself, he couldn't care less about the fans right now.

great post brah. & that was rusla chagaev, a former champion he took on. not some bum named mario santiago. who the heck is rocky juarez to turn down fights?

i take that back, he only fights for titles vs superstars which he subsequently loses.

he was to be the co-event...ortiz was the headliner.....one won't know until you are actually in those shoes as to why he chose not to but im behind him as weve seen some crazy upsets when fill ins come into play....why risk the title shot?? just to be on hbo...please....showtime will pick it up if they dont want it and i rather have farhood and bernstein call the action anyways so its a win win for juarez.....good luck

Damn! Some ppl are pretty fickle around here! You get to cherry pick after u fight perceived great fighters?

Thats BS! But its the next man's opinion.

We all know that the southpaws are difficult for many to fight. That's why its mandatory that if u are scheduled to face a lefty u spar with a many of lefties. But since he is some fringe contender with connections he must take whatever bone thrown to him? Come on man.

If anything, John should be getting heat for the pull out!

um... juarez has been on HBO consistently even tho he loses more than the clippers.

Not even a month ago HBO turned down Ruslan Chagaev vs. Wladamir Klitschko. Klitschko signed to fight a 25-0 Southpaw World Champion on 3 weeks notice after training for a wild swinging David Haye for 2 months.

to be fair, chagaev was probably a known quantity for team wlad and they probably were targeting for chagaev eventually, while team juarez probably had no idea who that southpaw that GBP had lined up for him was.

remember, wlad chose chagaev... juarez didn't chose that southpaw.

also wlad is boring and juarez atleast puts up decent losing efforts.

Juarez, with the chance to be on HBO, turns down a mediocre and very beatable opponent and misses out on being the main event of a fight card with a great crowd that followed a thrilling FOTY candidate.
I'm just saying training for an orthodox then switching to a southpaw last minute isn't a recipe for success.

Typical response from an affirmative action baby with an unqualified affirmative action baby in his avatar. Blame the guy with a legitimate reason and reward the one who wasted an opportunity.
                  Sounds about right.

This post is airtight man. Exactly, look at what Wladdy did and look at what Ricardo did. Its not like Santiago is some unknown quantity. Thats the guy most people thought beat Luevano. Rocky knows damn well who he is and he'd rather not have to fight him.
Iole nailed it. Screw Ricardo "Penguin" Juarez. (Thanks Chups, lol)
