  • Hofers, Current and Former Champs Say Juanma is Only Missing Patience

The Brother Jimmy BBQ wings were hotter than the Juan Manuel Lopez fight last night.

Several hundred fans, including tourists NFL players and champions and former champions, met last night in the Upper salon of the San Juan hotel in the Brothers Jimmy BBQ bar to see the combat.

The old guard of boxing, Alexis Arguello, Alfredo "El Salsero" Escalera, Juan Laporte, all former champions and Hofers, gave their humble knowledge drops of experience for the Puerto Rican champion.

"Heneed patience," said Laporte. "You can not just go to finish the fight quickly."

Arguello added "happens to fighters: very quick. He will be learning on the go. And you have to go with a system of fighting. You cant go to try and KO your opponent. "

The night was warm and open, but the beginning of the fight was not the style of fighting Lopez and there was some frustration among those present.

Former champion Carlos Ortiz was with the concerted encounters Don Khan and both commented that the fight was lackluster in the first five rounds.

Also present were the champions Ivan Calderon and Jose 'Carita' Lopez, and former champions Victor 'Puppy' Calleja and Rafael del Valle.

At least one fact was certain: In the sixth round the present people saw the Juqueño fighter fight, whom he is known for the speed and power of his right hand.

"I had never seen so much fighting," said one of those present, Fernando Rivera.

Another was also true: the bar Brother Jimmy could make their fortune, when Lopez was unable to finish the fight and held fast to those present near the Bar.

I feel he is missing some patience, he needs more head movement and he needs to start working of his jab more!!!!!!!!!!

I agree patients is the key for juanma. its the same thing i saw in the penalosa fight. he was trying too hard to ko penalosa and he ate some good counters that didnt fase him. when he steps up to the elite he needs to be patient and use his skills and he will be a great fighter.

patience in setting up his shots will work against runners... but I like his workrate.... more head movement would also be welcome

I agree with you Champ about the jab. He needs to come forward behind the jab, he'd be soooo much more effective. Against the guys that are more or less afraid of him or don't have the fire power to hurt him, he can do what he's doing. But when he's in there with a Gamboa or a Vazquez who can crack he's gonna need to be more careful.

He's gonna have a height advantage on most people he fights...he should use it.

Junama needs to stay smart. He is a very good fighter, and his workrate is impressive, but what you must know is as you step up KOs get harder to score against the best. In all honesty if Juanma fights with no headmovement and goes straight in towards a fighter like Rafiel Marquez he might get stopped. Good fighter nonetheless.

These fights like fighting the ugly Lontchi are good for him.

He did go for the kill a little much and got careless at times (esp in the 5th) but fighting these guys are only good for him.

He pretty much dominated the fight except for a part of the 5th and put the guy on the floor a couple of times, so he did what he had to do.

Lontchi would make it hard for anyone, and I though other than winging some shots out of position, Lopez fought extremely well last night.

Juanma Needs ****ing head movemnet also. Like You said against people with decent to not much power, he can go wild if he wants, but against guys like Marquez and Vazquez, who are very good techniacally, he cant go and try to bully them.

He nneds to work of his jab, to set up his ****. When he did you his jab las night, he hurt Lontchi to the body and KHD twice!!!!!!!
