if you're getting pummeled, outclassed and just beat up then quitting isn't that bad

BUT, when you're in control, you've dropped your opponent 3 times and he hasnt folded like you thought, then YOU quit....that's called bull****

      Quitting

      What do you call "quitting"?

      a) not getting into the ring after taking serious beating because you are scared
      b) not into the ring because you are wounded
      c) not getting into the ring because the trainer or doc won't let you
      d) your corner throws the towel while you are clobbered
      e) you turn your back and simply don't fight back, forcing the ref to call it quits
      f) you don't get up while the ref is counting, because you know you are outmatched

I think a) is the worst possible thing - being outclassed and afraid, followed by e and f. This means, your foe defeated your body and your spirit.

The others (b, c, d) are not as bad, since staying healthy is very important for any sportsman.

I agree with Larry and what he said...In regards to your post...The reff is supposed to protect the fighter when he can no longer do it himself. JT was out on his feet and the reff stpped the fight that was a good stoppage....This to me was horrible and the worst kind of quitting. I rather he had just feel to the canvas and not got up before ten then do what he did. then his post fightin the ring was even worse....Lefty

Whats worse? A 2 million dollar paycheck and a loss on your record, or Parkinsons.

The trainer always bails to guy out, no question. If we are talking a young fighter who is being outclassed beat up and almost humiliated, then yeah the corner throws in the towel and deals with the fall out. If the fighter in question wants to continue and seems to be trying to win the fight then let him live and die with his skills and whatever happens happens. But, if the fighter is done and has nothing left to give other than making himself a target for a brutal K.O. then the corner saves him.

Also the ref cannot be depended on to do anything outside of enforce the rules and walk around the ring. it's dangerous to expect the ref to save a fighter. Every ref is different and no one should ever think a guy will help a fighter in there his corner saves him period.

If its the 10th round, your way behind on the scorecards and your getting your ass kicked, the shield is ******, but when its the 6th and your ahead on the score cards ...

Ortiz quit, the camera showed him telling the ref "enough" then you see the ref talking to him, probably telling him if you quit you're done. The ref basically pulled a mercy kill.

as long as its isn't the boxer that is getting pummeled that wants to quit... his corner should do the quitting for him.
