its a shame.. i think sturm has earned this shot..
HBO should hire some ppl who know a think or 2 about boxing..
i kno its not the most attractive fight stylewise but its a fight that should happen.. it'll also promote a pavlik/abriham or sturm/abriham fightComment

All those mentioned was close fights. Robberies??? Naah. Depends on the definition and a lot of the rounds were close so they could have gone either way. The closest thing to a robbery was the Reid fight.Comment

Percentage-wise, Germany has more hometown decisions than any other country in the world. Four of Ottke's "wins" were very clear wins for the fighter who lost on the scorecards - not close fights that could have been scored either way, but clear wins for the opponent. The only US fight I can think of in recent history that was such a clear robbery as those fights were was the Casamayor-Santa Cruz fight.
And the refereeing of the Ottke-Reid fight was by far the worst refereeing of any fight I have ever seen anywhere. Reid was warned just for hitting Ottke, and when he knocked Ottke down, not only was it not counted, but he was given a warning for that was well. He also had a point deducted for an imaginary foul.Comment

Why do you want Pavlik-Sturm in order to promote Pavlik-Abraham, when you could have Pavlik-Abraham straight away? Given that Abraham is having increasing difficulty in making 160, Pavlik-Abraham is the more urgent fight. Pavlik-Sturm can wait.Comment

In recent memory I remember my countryman Martin Kristjansen getting a very harsh treatment by the ref when he fought Amir Khan. Khan committed several blatant fouls including hitting a downed opponent and wasn't even cautioned.
Still I'd like to see the scientific evidence.Comment

I mean, TBO...Pavlik vs Sturm isn't this big fight that I'd assume HBO would throw tons of money at. When's the last notable fight Sturm had on a big stage?
Since Pav's loss to BHop, his stock has gone way down being he hasn't had a notable fight since and there's probably only 1-2 fights that would attract HBO or Showtime for a headline fight being either Abraham or P. Williams.
I have a bad feeling Pav is going to be in a similar situation as BHop was throughout the 90s fighting whatever contenders there were in a division that was filled with good, but not great fighters.Comment

I haven't seen any such analysis, but I'd love to for sure. It's all about when a big star fights against an import at home. Several times the opponents of yank superstars as well as brits has gotten a raw deal from either ref or judges or both.

In the meantime, the promoters of both fighters could and should set this up for either Pavlik fight in their negotiations, regardless of which country the fight takes place in - as happened in the case of Calzaghe-Lacy and Calzaghe-Kessler, for instance - the ref and judges for both those fights were international.Last edited by Dave Rado; 06-29-2009, 12:30 PM.Comment
