Pavlik vs Sturm in Doubt After HBO Lowballs The Fight

Pavlik needs to fight Abraham while there's still so much interest in that fight. We already know that Kelly will easily beat Sturm, that fight proves nothing and will probably be a boring decision, which is why HBO is low-balling it.Comment

sturm is a very good boxer. don't be so sure it would be a walk in the park for pavlik. sturm is very skilled. much more than aa.Comment

Pavlik-Abraham is the best fight out there, but Sturm is a slick fighter. Hopkins is a slick fighter and look what happened.Comment

HBO is investing their money badly imo. I understand why they threw a boat load at Dawson because he has great talents and is an American but why throw him against a guy like Tarver(after the first match)? The obvious reason is that people know who Tarver is but is that a smart way to invest. The fight was boring and really didn't even showcase Dawson well. When you look at this investment you can see how HBO is only going to shell out money to their old American fighters. Margarito Vs Mosley had a high purse but if it were lets say Margarito Vs Kirkland the money would have been sickly low and this is where HBO is running into a huge problem. They are blowing to many dollars on dead fights/fighters and when they have an actual interesting match or prospect they will not be able to showcase it or get them into a pleasing matchup. I have doubts in HBO building new stars and I can see in 10 years the sport leaving the station to going to national t.v. or a different network.
As for this fight I say do it over seas. Pavlik isn't going to get a fight on HBO and he won't get jack on those half assed PPV's hes been on. Fighters need to realize that the sport is changing and in some instances you can make more money if you go on the road. Its kind of a shame though and will hurt the sport in America since no one will see the fight and it will be tough to follow certain fighters but you have to do what you have to do. The sport is thriving in other markets. Also fighters should just except that the economy is different and you can't expect to rake in millions every fight. Take lower amounts of cash, build a resume and money will follow.Comment
