I heard he does great numbers out there. Will he be able to compete with Jr. or is he not there yet (in terms of popularity).

Canelo's pretty good, I saw his fight against Larry Mosley. It was pretty boring though, but it was mostly Mosley's fault and for a kid that's 18 beating a crafty vet is real good. I want to see him against Karass or somebody of that ilk.

Well you saw his worst fight, check his other ones on youtube, like his destruction of Pinzon.

And he's pretty popular in Mexico.

There are 2 main channels there, Televisa (Canelo) and TV Azteca (Chavez Jr,). Canelo was supposed to fight on August 1, but Televisa change the date, so that they will compete with the Chavez Jr, fight.

It's gonna be interesting the results in ratings, but Chavez jR, has some advabtage since TV Azteca almost always does better ratings than Televisa in Boxing.
