For all those people who find it more convenient to bother you with their question rather than to Google it for themselves.

"Throwback fighter" typically means just that ; the man is a throwback to the older days of boxing.

This title could be given to a fighter for any number of reasons.

1.) The fighter may have some old school training routines that he employs in his training camps.

2.) The fighter may be highly active, fighting more than the average 3 times a year nowadays.

3.) The fighter may be lesser skilled than his contemporaries, but make up for that lack with some kind of intangible ; heart, chin, workrate, attitude, etc....

There are many other examples of what it means to be a "throwback", but those are some of the basics.

Its a term used to describe the disposition of the pre-HBO hype job ***** boy who only fights soft opponents for big money and fights maybe twice a year.

Where as the hypejob Al Haymon managed ***** boy holds out for a **** load of money and a perfectly beatable dance partner, the throwback fighter is tough, rugged, skilled and is just as happy kicking your ass in the ring as he is in the street.

The throwback fighter gives the fans real fights, not "boxing". He fights at least 6 times a year and will always give you your moneys worth.

And last but not least, a throwback fighter will fight anyone. He won't point to certain fighters and say ridiculous things like: why should I fight him? Who has he beat? He's not a draw? He's not an attraction!

Well, you get the idea. A throwback fighter loves to fight. Most modern fighters dont.
