To get the right fights boxing needs and to promote his fighter as the best one on the planet.

He's doing HIS JOB.Like wise,his fighters get payed and he needs to get paid also.I can assure everyone in this thread if they were a promoter they would make the match between the best fighters they have with no middle man.

First NYC isn't Miguel Cotto's hometown...Thats like saying every Mexican that fights in Vegas and wins a close decision...gets a hometown decision because theres a lot of Mexicans in Nevada....Not logical.







And theres probably an assload of credible writers that have Cotto number 1.

I would guess most have it like me and have no number 1...because to anyone with a objective brain there is no way to come to a clear cut number 1.

NY is about as close to home as Cotto can get outside of PR. Inside the US, when I think of Cubans I think of Miami, Mexicans I think of West Coast and Texas, Puerto Ricans - NY. In a close fight the more popular fighter in that region usually gets the nod.

Cotto's fight with Clottey could have gone either way maybe "2nd hometown" and marketability played a factor with the slight nod for Cotto but Clottey can't complain as he knew he had to beat Cotto without any doubts.
Clottey is as tough as Margarito. Better boxer and defense but not agressive where Margarito gets the nod.
I would have to give the nod to Shane as the #1 ww at this point because of the big difference in the Margarito fight. But I will say that it is a slight nod because psychologically getting hit with loaded gloves can change the way you fight mentally and physically. It took Shane some rounds to break Marg. down and psycholigically Marg did not have the Ace in the whole and may no longer had the mental edge he had against Cotto. He knoew he was going to break Cotto down he had to just last to the later rounds. With Shane doubts snuck in and changed his psych.

btw Mosley landed 248 punches on Cotto, and **** hits much harder than Clottey and is the man who knocked Tony out. What more plaster evidence do you need

And Shane would beat all those guys also.
The only way to solve this is maybe a rematch but then if Shane won then it would be they are 1 and 1.
Just to prove a point and believe me I am no fan of Floyd but if the fght with Cotto and Floyd were to be held later this year and Floyd destroys JMM, who is smaller; regardless Floyd would be favored to beat Cotto and Floyd hasn't even fought real competition in that division.
In my opinion floyd is not the best at WW, but many experts will put him there until he is beaten.

I really agree with you, some people dont see it that way. When you know you have something on your advantage you feel extremely confident and "unbeatable"....all that sh it changed when Marg fought Mosley, the type of fighter that he was that night wasn't him, anybody could notice that......he got caught and he wasn't the same. Just my opinion........
