Article: "Has Pretty Boy Floyd Already Blown His Comeback?"

Has Pretty Boy Floyd Already Blown His Comeback?
    by Bill Cody

So, now that Manny Pacquiao appears to be fighting Miguel Cotto in what could possibly be his last fight, the question a lot of boxing fans are asking is what exactly did Floyd Mayweather, Jr. come out of retirement for anyway?

It is known that he has been training off and on almost since he announced his first retirement, and he's been making noises that he wanted to fight the Pac-Man just as long and he had been in negotiations with Pacquiao's promoter Bob Arum all through the spring.

But, Pacquiao's handlers were stunned by Mayweather's announcement that he was fighting Juan Manuel Marquez in July just hours before the Pac-Man entered the ring to destroy Ricky Hatton.

So, why did the Pretty Boy choose to fight Marquez when the bigger fight was obviously with Manny?

And now, with his rib injury initially derailing the Marquez fight, Mayweather had another opening to fight Pacquiao and he didn't take it, even though Top Rank put out feelers about making the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight happen in October.

The fact is Pacquiao and his handlers wanted the Mayweather fight, and would have given him a better deal than anything Cotto or Mosely could possibly get.

It is also now quite possible that Mayweather and Pacquiao will never get together in the ring because Pacquiao and his people have already said he'll fight one or two more times before moving on to politics in the Philippines where he is a national hero.

One of those fights is now taken, and if Mayweather continues to stall then the other fight will go to Shane Mosely if Pacquiao beats Cotto, like many people believe he will.

And, as far as legacy fights, Cotto and Mosely will easily cement Pacquiao's status as one of the five greatest fighters ever.

Mayweather, on the other hand, increasingly tarnishes his legacy by his continued tendency to find reasons to avoid the top fighters like Pacquiao and Mosely.

Rumors abound that he owes millions to the IRS, so perhaps Mayweather's comeback is only a money grab.

If it isn't a money grab, then PBF needs to start acting more like Shane Mosely who went as far as sending out a fake press release to try and get Pacquiao in the ring.

Because right now, the clock is ticking on the kind of legacy fights he needs to be mentioned with the all time greats.

As an addendum to this article, here's a link to a video showing PBF getting batted around by Paul Spadafora in a sparring session. This butt kicking is why Floyd, Jr. fired his Dad and went back to training with his Uncle.

So, now that Manny Pacquiao appears to be fighting Miguel Cotto in what could possibly be his last fight, the question a lot of boxing fans are asking is what exactly did Floyd Mayweather, Jr...

Floyds been gone for 2 years, and hasn't done **** in boxing for 2 years and he thinks he deserves 60/40 against pacquiao. **** it he doesn't even deserve 70/30 against pacquiao. Go fight someone with a pulse and earn credibility back since you have been sitting on your ass for 2 years.

Like go fight Mosley or Cotto or someone like that Floyd!! You done nothing for the past 2 years to ask for 60/40!

Now his only chance is to beat JMM and go for the winner of Pac-Cotto. I'll be rooting my ass off for Marquez tho.

I don't see how beating Marquez warrants him a 60/40 split against Pacquiao! Pacquiao has already done it! And if Mayweather wants to open his big mouth and say Pacquiao didn't do it and got a gift.

Well, I guess Mayweather/Castillo I was a gift too floyd. Floyd needs to **** off, and fight Mosley to earn a spot against Pacquiao. He has done nothing but sit on his ass for 2 years and take a vacation, while the real men in boxing worked their ass off.

Maybe. But it's still early days.

We all know Mayweather isn't just going to fight Marquez then retire. We WILL see him fight at very least one of Mosley, Pacquiao, Cotto.

It will be a great shame if he misses his shot at Pacquiao as the fight holds a lot of significance for boxing, let alone him and Pac's careers.

Because the money split is based on revenue generation, not what they've accomplished in the ring.

I have it as a big maybe walking towards a yes as every single day comes by. I believe if he really got injured, he should keep the fight with JMM. If it was just a stunt to cut the Pac-Cotto fight that is just a ****** move, no fighter must sign contracts for levarege for other fights, and then faking it like people were ******. But he only knows what is going on and time will tell.

Even thou if his target was Pac, a fight with JMM is a great starting point if he believes he is so much better than Pac, he should ( or he might think) win in an easyer fashion than the Pac-JMM fights. IF HE DOES ( i dunno if he can) this would be a great point to try a 60-40 split or even a 50-50 , it might sound far fetch but could happen, only if he can walk over JMM
