    Joshua Splits With Manager

Former IBF Welterweight Champion Joshua Clottey has split with his trainer over a dispute over his trainers pay. Clottey insist on deducting a percentage of Kwame Asante’s wages using it to pay an assistant coach he hired prior to his recent bout with Miguel Cotto in New York.

But his trainer, Kwame Asante disagreed with that arrangement since it was Clottey who appointed the extra assistant, Ishmael Ayitey. Among other things Asante accuses his former employee of disrespectful behavior towards him through-out their five year relationship. He also alleges that Clottey ignored all advice and went ahead to stay with his girlfriend in the lead up to his splits point decision loss to Miguel Cotto at Madison Square Garden’s.

In interview with Citi Sports from his base in the U.S., Clottey denied the allegations saying he clearly ironed out the pay arrangement with his trainer before employing Ishmael Ayitey. He went on further to say that his trainer, Kwame Asante only needed to pay the new assistant $500 out of the $55,000 he earned in the fight. The relationship between the two dates back to 2004 when Clottey split with his long time trainer Godwin Dzanie Kotey. Clottey revealed he is likely to renew his relationship with Godwin Dzanie Kotey in his future engagements.
