if the ref allowed Meldrick a champion's courtesy of finishing the fight, then he would have won on the cards...
but as it was, he stopped it...it was questionable but that was the ref's decision and i dont have any problems with him protecting meldrick...shady or not

Agreed. As much as I like Meldrick he didn't answer if he was alright. Richard Steele cudda asked Meldrick to walk to him but Steele asked if he was ok first...
This is old and done to death Caz. You shoulda just asked if Steele was right or wrong. JCC KO'd him, so he won. Was the call right? No. JCC didn't have time to walk across the ring and get off anotha punch.

watch mayorga-mosley...chavez had time 4 one more crushing blow
taylor was damn near dead, didnt answer the ref..ref did nothing wrong..look at taylor after that fight..he was done
Stop! This myth must die.
Taylor was still very good and fighting at a world class level for about 2 years, even if not 100% of what he once was.
The brain damage came from the accumulated punishment of his career.
I didn't have too much of a problem with the stoppage.
I was rooting for Taylor and all, but he wasn't verbally responding. He gave a slight nod while looking at Lou Duva in the corner.
I've always felt that if Duva wasn't in the corner that Taylor would've verbally responded, Steele lets it go on, and the fight ends. Taylor wins by SD, although his career wouldn't be much different afterwards (other than maybe a rematch with Chavez before 1994).
Taylor was slumped in the corner hanging on to the ropes, his mouth gaping open gasping for breath, eyes glazed over, didnt respond to the ref + time left on the clock = KO victory.
