Yes, if the 9th round would have continued another 30 seconds or so, Chagaev would have been out.

The referee Eddie Cotton looked to be considering stopping the fight when Chagaev was being badly hurt on the ropes.

There's no way Chagaev would have made it through three more rounds. And the doctor came to Chagaevs corner (guy with the white gloves) and advised the referee to stop the fight anyway.

Wlad has no confidence in his chin.

Definitely, Wlad is now a very cautious fighter.

Retiring on the stool is a far bigger KO than a KO.

A normal KO could be a lucky punch, or simply a stamina thing. Making someone say "No mas" on the stool means complete annihilation. The loser admits
            • that he has no chances = is completely controled
            • the he lost the majority of the previous rounds
            • the he will lose the majority of the following rounds
            • that he wants himself to stop the fight (as opposed to "his flesh was weak")

Let's not forget that some boxers' legs won't ever fold.

He gets the KO eventually. When your jab is enough to wear guys down, why bother throwing big shots?

Even the right hands he threw yesterday were short jabby-type rights, not his older loaded crosses.
