late start but its ok, if u truly dedicate ur self, if u have the talent, u can still get good in the early 20s of ur life. But u gotta really just forget about life and make boxing ur life. No more partys no more smoking, nothing but training, wake up run 4 miles everyday. Go to the gym everyday, train eat right and take it slow, ur first few fight u wont be good but u will get good eventually. It takes time. and most off all be ready to take a beating, trust me it will happen. If ur not tough dont enter this sport.

Good luck man i know a lot of boxers here in vegas and only a few of them can even support themselves, early on a lot of promoters will want you to fight for free or peanuts 50-100 dollars it takes years to even achieve the small 10-15 thousand dollar pay days and you wont even get there unless you keep your 0.

I used to train regularly, but I was too old for amateurs (35) when I started, and not good enough for pro.

Yes sir! Angulo started boxing at 17 and some commentator said that he started late. I was like WTF? 17 is late?

Anyway, good luck with that. I trained at the local boxing gym.

I was 34 turning 35 when I started. I am from Australia - my understanding was that amateurs cut off at 35 here... was I wrong?

im from australia too and yes you were wrong, there is a masters division for over 34 boxers where you wear heavier gloves and fight shorter rounds. down in the ACT we had a tournament last week and a guy from my gym (age 42) won a masters bout in the 91kg division

man i feel u.. i was u a year and a half ago when i started boxing. my only advice is less talking and more action. its gon take lots of work and lots of time, even if u are talented and it comes easy to u u will still have to train a few years just to get decent. dedicate yourslef for a few years. dont think about turning pro, just get in the gym and start. u have a lot of boring footwork drills to do before u will even start throwing a 1-2. u will throw about 2million of those before u even throw a hook. repetition for a long ass time before u can get in the ring and spar without getting your ass beat. be ready to work bro.
