WHY so much hype with paul williams?

is he really that good? the fact that he lost to a journeyman fighter AT BEST in Quintana shows his vulnerability against world class opposition... NOT only did quintana beat him, HE SCHOOLED his ass for 12 rounds... and while paul avenged the loss in devastating fashion, it still did not erase ONE of the blueprints on how to beat paul williams.

Let's just take a step back and think about the level of competition he has been facing.. I think it's safe to say that his biggest win to date is againt antonio margarito... Margarito is nothing but a slower version of paul williams... After the whole cheating incident with margarito, and then him getting exposd by mosley, shows that he is not exactly the best measuring stick for success..... AND, we all should know by now that YOU CANNOT USE BOXING MATH, or deductive reasoning to rank fighters.. for example, you can't say "floyd beat ricky in ten rounds, while manny beat him in two, so pacquiao would beat mayweather, and is a better fighter than mayweather" ... Hopkins lost to taylor, taylor lost to pavlik, pavlik lost to hopkins.... BOXING is a sweet science, not a math....

I personally was not impressed at all with him beating winky wright.... wright just wanted a quick payday, and a guy that throws a few punches as him, regardless of how precise, is simply not going to get a decision over a guy throwing thrice the punches.. if you pay close attention, you see that 90 percent of his punches were not making contact AT ALL, the other 5 percent that made contact, were on his gloves, arms, shoulders, and chest... then the other 5 percent that actually made clean contact were looping, grazing, and not solid punches at all...

YOU HEARD IT HERE FIRST... Williams gets EXPOSED against clottey... now im not using boxing math here, but I think that Clottey has a tighter guard than winky, better defense, better speed, AND throws more punches that winkey.... and even though williams will be throwing a lot more, clottey will just be piecing this lanky fool straight the **** up...

I just can't wait to take advantage of all the hype around him, and make A LOT of money off the hype train/betting odds...

Williams is just a horrible matchup, he'll Decision Clottey comfortably IMO.

you are entitled to your opinion, and I'm entitled to mine...that's the beauty of boxing debates, IT's ALL SUBJECTIVE, however, i think i can make a more compelling argument than you can for clottey having a better defense than wright, at least at this point in wright's career.. im ready to start the debate if you are?

Yeah, it was a misread... I agree that Clottey will have the more effective defense than the current Winky

But, this fight just screams Williams decision for me
Larger volume of punches, even though they might not all land he'd be getting the scores from judges
Also, boxing Williams with good movement is the way to beat him... I think Clottey would struggle to get his counters off due to Pauls height... Clottey WILL be there to be hit, Williams would mix his shot's up to get through that defense like Cotto did, maybe even more effectively

i do agree with you on the clottey parts but disagree with you on the williams issue

i think williams is a fantastic fighter and has the beating of just about everyone from 147 to 160. i can only see AA at 160 and possibly clottey taking the decision/TKO against williams. williams would comfortably take care of the majority of others:

SSM - struggles with taller fighters

cotto - would struggle with the height and workrate

kirland - has a good chance if he can execute a good gameplan but is not smart in the ring and repeatedly gets tagged by the same punches, also iv seen him hurt a few times

cintron/martinez - for williams these guys would be cannon fodder

clottey and AA have alot of similarities with winky, and winky got UD'ed by williams so clottey and AA could arguably have a nightmare with PW. but imo winkys style is not right for PW, even a prime winky would have got UD'd imo, his reliance on his jab meant that when he was inside he was throwing jabs when he needed to be throwing power punches to the body.

this is something that clottey and AA will do, they have a similarly tight guard as winky but they won't waste time on the inside with jabs or straights, they'll hurt PW to the ribs.

i think AA might have the punch to TKO williams.

clottey may find it harder but if williams has to make 147 and comes in drained then clotteys chances have improved by alot
