    Odlanier Solis versus Kevin Johnson

    From Rafael's notebook today:

"Solis' Top Rank debut is scheduled for Aug. 15 on the undercard of the a pay-per-view card at Las Vegas' Planet Hollywood. Solis could face rising American contender Kevin Johnson (22-0, 9 KOs), who knocked out 2004 U.S. Olympian Devin Vargas on May 15 on ESPN2. Top Rank's Carl Moretti and Johnson promoter Joe DeGuardia told ESPN.com they are in talks."

These are the kind of fights the heavyweight division needs. We need the contenders to start fighting one another even when the belts aren't on the line. After a fight like this one of these guys would actually be closer to deserving a title shot.

Who would you have? Personally I like Kingpin over the distance. Solis is a smooth puncher, but he's short and fat. Neither of them have power, but Johnson shows up to fights in shape and his left hand is blazing fast. I think Johnson would control the fight fairly comfortably.

Solis has to get into better shape, when he's in shape he has a lot of talent. Talent which would beat Johnson but if he shows up 250-260 again, he'd probably lose.

He's a thick guy and doesn't really even look overly fat at those high weights (in terms of if he was a normal dude, not an athlete) so I imagine he'd only have to come down to 240ish, 235 at the least to be in good shape. It is a shame that he doesn't.

I think Johnson would win a decision. Solis was a great amateur but hasn't been very dedicated as a pro, letting himself baloon up to 260.

          I hope this fight happens!
