Chagaev doesn't have Hep B, he HAD Hep B.
He has the Hep B antigen, just like most of us who had measles as children have the measles antigen.

When you are vaccinated for Hep B, you are given the antigen. I was vaccinated for Hep B, so I have the antigen myself.
King and Sauerland used the fact the Chagaev had the Hep B antigen to evade having Valuev fight him. They knew Valuev was in no danger. The Finnish authority, erring on the side of caution, suggested Valuev receive a vaccination just to be certain, but the big disgrace to Russia refused.
