like ssm, and bhop are not doing themselves any favors by not staying active. I know they have had problems securing fights, but they should have some tune ups in the mean time. Inactivity at an advanced age is the worst thing for the aging fighter. I would hate to see them get old over night, and especially after have such big wins this past yr.
These older fighters.......

As usual you have **** assbackwards.like ssm, and bhop are not doing themselves any favors by not staying active. Older fighters don't need to be taking punches just to stay active.
You don't know any better since Rican fighters don't last very long.Comment

I think your right Mel.like ssm, and bhop are not doing themselves any favors by not staying active. One thing ive noticed about older fighters is INCONSISTENCY.
Azumah Nelson loses to Leija twice, Leija loses to Ruelas and Nelson beats Ruelas and beats Leija in the 3rd fight and then loses the 4th fight. I know he lost to Genaro Hernandez some where along the line. I realize the Garcia fight effected Ruelas in that fight but he still lost.
Hopkins loses to Taylor 2x, then beats Tarver,Winky, then loses to Calzaghe and when everyone thinks he is done he comes back to beat Pavlik, now i know many will pass those off as style issues but i think its a little more than that, because Hopkins workrate against Calzaghe was non existent but against Pavlik he was much more active. There was an excuse about Hopkins thyroid but im not sure how genuine that is.
Take a look how good Shane looked against a slick counter punching lefty in Collazo, he lost a close fight to Cotto, and then look at how poor his timing was against Mayorga.
You can make excuses for all these performances but i think its too much of a coincidence to do that, i believe one of the biggest problems older fighters is inconsistency, i believe its one of the reasons they say most great Champions always have one last good win in them.
Staying active could save wear and tear but it can also let your hand eye coordination suffer through lack of activity. You need to keep going through the motions to stay in tune imo, not against tough opposition but against decent enough opposition to keep you switched on.Last edited by Dynamite Kid; 06-19-2009, 07:31 AM.Comment

maybe, but if your not active, and staying sharp by fighting semi often your chances of having a poor showing in that money fight are high. inactivity is bad for any fighter, but for older fellas it's really, really bad.Comment

Mosley needed to have fought again this summer to keep everyone's attention after the Margarito fight. Honestly, he can't really think that Pacquio will step up and fight him in the ring, even if he did fight at 140-142..
Mosley needs to fight Berto and take his belt, which would give him two and hen try and parlay that with a fight either against Cotto or Mayweather.
I know he is mad at Pac for stealing his thunder with the nasy KO of Hatton.. If that didn't happen he would probably be fighting Cotto or FMJr.
BTW.. if Margarito gets his license back again early next year, you think SSM would then have to fight him AGAIN to get decent money?Comment

yeah i think he may. ssm is a great fighter, but is not really that big a draw so it's a high risk vs low reward to fight him so i think it will be hard for him to secure a bigfight/payday, which sucks because he deserves it, and is a very good fighter.Mosley needed to have fought again this summer to keep everyone's attention after the Margarito fight.
