I am a big fan of Floyd Mayweather as a boxer. He is one of the most technically skilled and fundamentally sound fighters I have ever seen but I want to mention something about his training. At 130 Floyd was extremely explosive, super fast, and just overwhelmed anyone in front of him. As he's gone up, especially at 147, I haven't seen this. Yes he's still really fast, but he relies more on technique, defense, timing, and accuracy along with his brains to win. We all know he trains EXTREMELY hard and is one of the hardest workers in the gym in the sport but would he be much more explosive and dynamic if his training regimen was to incorporate some new style methods? I've seen a ton of training of his and of course he's not going to show everything but it seems like his work consists of sparring, pads, bag work, shadow boxing, jump rope, and a little weight training and body weight exercises. All this is excellent work and impressive to watch but you look at some of the work that Pac does with Plyometrics to make him more explosive and it works wonders for him. Floyd seems to stick to more old school stuff. Yes hes undefeated and I know many will say if it ain't broke don't fix it but I really think he could become even better, or could have become better had he added some of this stuff to his training, especially to keep his explosiveness in moving up in weight which he either doesn't have as much of anymore or simply doesn't use it. And I'm not knocking his work. I'm a bigger fan of Floyd in the ring than Pacquiao by far but man Manny's explosiveness just seems to get better all the time. Anyone else have an opinion on this specific topic.
Mayweather Training

True, they have completely different styles and there a lot of other fighters who have implemented hard core plyometrics as well who are different styllistically and I think Floyd beats Pacquiao but I think Floyd could be better and maybe even have his body hold up better with a little change up to some of his training. He was insane at 130 and I think he could have maintained a lot of that moving up. Maybe it's not for him but I think FM Sr. and Roger are a little old school even though they have great knowledge and skill in what they do. No offense to Ellerbe but I just don't think he's a top notch strength and conditioning expert.Comment
