Is Cotto too big a risk for Pacquiao

Giangrasso: First off, Let me preface this article by stating that Manny Pacquiao is a phenomenal fighter and deserves the #1 Pound for Pound status he has acquired. However I personally think Cotto is too big a risk without the reward that matches it (AKA Mayweather). Comparing Cotto’s fights with Margarito, Clottey and Mosley to Pacquiao is not realistic; All of these guys are top champions who are taller or the same height that Cotto.

In addition they come into the ring over 160 pounds; Manny will be coming in under 150 and also shorter than Cotto. Outside of Margarito and his “fists of stone” last July none of these guys really hurt Cotto to the point that the fight would be stopped; Cotto has proved time and time again (Corley, Torres, Clottey, Mosley) that he is vulnerable to getting hit and stunned.

But it takes a lot (hands wrapped with rocks) and a ton of punches to put Cotto out. Even with the Margarito fight he took a tremendous beating for 11 rounds before giving in. His resistance to pain is much higher than people give him credit for.

Pacquiao is going to feel power he has never felt before with Cotto. And unlike Hatton and a shot, dehydrated DLH, Cotto has the ability to box if he has to. Cotto is also much faster than Hatton and DLH. Pacquiao is also vulnerable to being hit and I think when Cotto hits him flush he is going to feel it. Manny might stun Cotto with a straight left but he is not by any means taking him out. Manny is either in for a long painful night or a very short one.

If this fight is made I imagine that Cotto would be the underdog just based on Manny’s P4P status. Take the money under your dresser and put it on Cotto. This is a mismatch that people are not taking into effect. Manny is a great fighter and if he is going into a fight that is a mismatch he should probably go into the Mayweather fight where he stands to make more than double the money of a Cotto fight.

This article is not meant to offend any Manny fans as I am one too. Its about using your brain when betting on a fight. Any opinions are welcome. Thank you for reading

Did you write that or is that an actual article? Or both haha?

I'm inclined to agree. I think Pac's handlers are nuts putting him in with Cotto or Mosley, personally.

He's going up against a prime welter and he IS going to get hit...none of us have any idea how he's gonna react to that.

However, if there's on thing I've personally learned, it's to NEVER count Pac-Man out.

Nope, I don't think so. I mean, people gotta understand Pacquiao's option were SSM, Cotto...Mayweather was no longer an option now that the fight has been postponed.

Pacquiao wins. If anyone want a bet, I got a spare 500K or so.

I'll put all my points on Pacquiao winning this fight. If anyone wants to take the bet (once the fight is made) just let me know.

Pac is too fast and has superior footwork. Also, Miguel, although a natural lefty, gets hit too much when he faces southpaws (Judah and Corley both rocked his world).

Pac wins by TKO in the 8th if the fight is at 144 or below and by UD at 145 and above.

Agree with all that basically...Too much of a risk for Pacquiao..I see Cotto brutally stopping him late...Cotto is no DLH or Hatton and will catch Manny and when he does hes gonna be in trouble..
