  • Floyd Mayweather is to Boxing as Reggie Jackson was to the Yankees

Anyone who feels some sick kind of joy or expresses some glee about Floyd Mayweather’s serious rib injury is no friend of mine.

Not to mention no friend or genuine fan of Manny Pacquiao, of Juan Manuel Marquez or even a true aficionado of the great sport of boxing.

I’m not going to hit PBF while he is (sitting) down, while he is in excruciating pain from some cartilage damage in his rib section.

I would like to know, just out of curiousity, who the sparring partner was who delivered the body blow heard round the world in Mayweather’s Vegas gym last week but that juicy detail will emerge soon enough.

It would be a damned shame if Mayweather was to never fight again. Of course, he will get back into the ring in due time and that’s all good because, and here is my vital point, what would the dramatis personae of big time boxing be without him?

The mouthy, arrogant Great I Am Mayweather is the devil we know.

He provides countless hours of fun and amusement outside the ring and he can be a thrillgiver between the ropes. He didn’t run up that 39-0 record by always ordering up duck sauce.

Even the worst Mayweather Mafia haters need to admit that PBF is like Reggie Jackson was with the Yankees.

Mayweather is the straw that stirs the drink, the villain we all want to see clashing with good guy and Pinoy Idol Pacquiao.

Whhat a snoring, boring place boxing would be if all the top fighters were classy gentleman such as Pacman, Juan Ma and Miguel Cotto.
Not everyone can wear the white hat and ride the white horse.

Mayweather plays his role extremely well and I know from personal experience that 80 percent of his away from the ring shtick is just that, a money making act.

Mayweather Loves Mexico. Sure, that was commercial jive but he must love Mexico really because the Mexican people generally love and respect boxing.

Boxing is Mayweather’s craft and he is one of its top practicioners. Even the clingiest Pac testes hugger should realize that.

Today, I am rooting for a quick Mayweather medical recovery.

Pacquiao comes from an archipelago but even that man is not an island unto himself.

Frazier needed Ali and vice versa.

Pacquiao needs Mayweather and vice versa.

    I’m not ribbing you guys.

I hope the recovery goes well and quickly down at Mayweather’s Rib Shack.

Just don’t that quack Floyd Sr. give any medical advice and you’ll be fine.
And don't wash all those pain pills down with Mountain Dew.

so you're saying mayweather was an average-at-best regular season hitter who came up big in october and helped boxing win the world series in '77 and '78?

yeah, i guess i can see that.
