i like the guy, but it seems to me the guy is jus a dirty fighter and has been a trend in his fights. Here are a few instances i can think of off the top of my head
Cotty vs Corley: Cotto gets point deducted for low blow
Cotto vs Quintana: Cotto lands an illegal kidney shot that knocks Quintana down
Cotto vs Urkal: Cotto puts a WWE move on Urkal
Cotto vs Judah: Cotto low blows Judah after he was hurt, later on in the fight an obvious low blow that even the ref was outraged, and cotto raises his hands and acts like he did nothing wrong
Cotto vs Clottey: bodyslams clottey, rabbit punches clottey, low blows clottey all in the same fight
none of these incidents individually are that bad and make Cotto a dirty fighter, but overall i cant think of a fighter that fights dirtier than Cotto (except Margarito of course). Also, a lot of these instances occured when Cotto was in trouble, which makes you question his motives.
Malignaggi also called Cotto a dirty fighter, saying he elbows and low blows
On top of that, refs and judges are extremely biased for Cotto (not really his fault, but it seems like he only wants to fight at MSG where he has all the support). The Corley fight was a joke. "That was a hometown stoppage, a disgrace!" - Larry Merchant. Corley had Cotto hurt and almost KOed him, yet the ref decides to stop the fight in favor of Cotto. The Mosley and Clottey decisions can be debated as well
you can pick apart my points, but i think the big picture is clear. I used to like Cotto, but after looking at this, hes a dirty fighter and extremely overrated. Look at his last 4 fights. Win over Gomez, TKO loss to Margarito, win over Jennings, and questionable SD over Clottey. If he arguably lost to Clottey, a guy who just stands there like a brick wall and lets you launch away, what makes you think he would even be competetive against Pac or May. Kellerman said it best, "Cotto is the better man, Clottey is the better fighter". The guy is clearly not an elite fighter as we wud like to think
