Did Mayol really give Calderon as much trouble as the scorecards suggest?

I've only seen 1 Calderon fight before but I keep hearing he's 1 of the best pure boxers in the game. I've seen a few Mayol fights and he's a tough kid but nothing too impressive skillwise. So i was surprised to read about the draw here on nsb. Did he really give Calderon a good run for his money??

Calderon is a real tiny guy and my friend whose in ringside told me that Mayol's reach was causing trouble for Calderon.

IMO Calderon is 34 and I believe he's losing reflexes and getting cut to often. Calderon should get some money in a unification with Viloria before he gets stretched out by some other opponent.
