Who's the real welterweight champ??? Be objective!

Here are the records for each boxer AT WELTERWEIGHT (147lbs):

    1. Miguel Cotto

    Michael Jennings TKO 5
    Alfonso Gomez RTD 5
    Shane Mosley UD 12
    Zab Judah TKO 11
    Oktay Urkal TKO 11
    Carlos Quintana RTD 5

    2. Shane Mosley

    Antonio Margarito TKO 9
    Luis Collazo UD 12
    Jose Luis Cruz UD 10
    David Estrada UD 10
Oscar De La Hoya SD 12 & UD 12
    Wilfredo Rivera KO 10
    Antonio Diaz TKO 6
    Shannan Taylor TKO 6

    3. Floyd Mayweather Jr

    Ricky Hatton TKO 10
    Carlos Baldomir UD 12
    Zab Judah UD 12
    Sharmba Mitchell TKO 6

    4. Antonio Margarido (assuming no plater until Shane Mosley fight)

    Miguel Angel Cotto TKO 11
    Kermit Cintron KO 6 & TKO 5
    Golden Johnson TKO 1
    Joshua Clottey UD 12
    Manuel Gomez TKO 1

It's either Miguel Cotto or Shane Mosley, in my eyes.
Margarito's record looks impressive but I keep thinking "plaster plaster plaster."

    What do you guys think?

If you go on past experience I might agree being objective. Lets be realistic IF you think that Floyd gets beat by Cotto and SMM you are only lying to yourself. Good post

Alot of Mosley's fights you have listed are void. They are all old fights from way back. However, because he beat the man in the WW division(Margarito), he becomes the man. Its the rule.

Floyd was the man until he retired, so he is not in the equation. Margarito has had the best competition, which made him the man. He faught all the top guys and cleared the division for the most part which made him the man until he recently loss.

Cotto is a vacant belt fighter. Faught C-class competition to get to the belt. Biggest fight at the time was Mosley and lets face it, he isn't something to go ape-**** over. Then when he faught top competition, he got a grade A ass whoopin.

Mosley is the WW king right now. He beat the man, which makes him the man. Floyd is campaigning at catchweights right now, so he isn't in the equation.

If Williams could ever get opponenets with balls. He would undoubtly be the WW champ.

Should've titled the post as "who's welterweight record looks most impressive?"

Right now, Mosley is the man.

He beat the man (Margarito), that beat the man (Cotto).

                It really is that simple.

I can agree on most of that except for a little on Floyd's take and all of Cotto's take. Cotto has fought better competiton than Margarito by far. Check the opposition. Stack them up against quality of opponents (don't forget to think about the plaster shhh a little)

Im not a hater but Floyd and nr1 WW got no business being mentioned in the same sentence till he fight one or two top 5 WW. I'd go for Mosley tbh he was doing pretty good down the stretch vs Cotto and in the end it wasn't a one side UD + he beatdown Margacheatto bad.

Ofc i think a very good KO or one sided (alot moreso than his V over Mosley) UD in Cotto's favour probably puts him back as nr1.
