Cotto will win. I dont see anyone talking about his determination to redeem himself, and he will tonight.Comment

From what we have seen in the past i'll have to agree. However Cotto has the boxing skills and lateral movement to improve drastically his defense and avoid getting hit as it has happened in the past. Lets see if the rumors are true and the new trainer has worked more on his defense and we can witness that today. if it's true it will be very dificult for anybody to beat Cotto at WW.
At least from the weigh in it seems confirmed what i have been saying for more than 2 weeks about the rumors of Cotto being in good conditions and toying with the weight, by coming in at 146 lbs and using an "organic diet". i wouldn't be surprised if Pacman's camp change there mind of fighting Cotto at 144lbs. Probably after seeing make with ease 146 they will now demand a fight at 142 or less which i beleive will not be possible for Cotto.
Anyway Clottey seems in great shape also an if he come with more work rate than usual, and being that the man has a great chin, Cotto will need to be almost perfect tonight because Clottey can and has a great chance to win this. Hopefully he doesn't. (Sorry that's the Cotto fan in me talking). Anyway Clottey is a great challenge and also a good person and even if he loses he can put up a show that will raise his value, same as when Zab and Mosley raised the value after fighting Cotto even in defeat, because of their performance.
Cotto by UD IMO.Comment

If Clottey decides to hide behind his peek-a-boo shell defense for most of the fight, he may lose the decision.
If he doesn't get off to a quick start and maintain the pace, Cotto can beat him.
Cotto is out to prove he hasn't lost his edge.
Clottey needs to win this one or he'll be waiting in line a while longer for another title shot.Comment

Cotto by UD IMO.
Cotto himself said that he isn't willing to sacrifice himself to make 144 so I don't think he can make 144.
I got Cotto winning this fight as well but as you said, Clottey is a very dangerous opponent.Comment

It should be a close UD for Cotto because of his superior boxing skills.Last edited by sangresabia; 06-13-2009, 08:15 AM.Comment

I agree with 99 % of this article and would be alot more comfortable if Cotto would have had a fight prior to this one with a new trainer.
Cotto is one of the best I've seen in 50 years reminding me alot of Hagler in his prime.
Problem for me though is how Cotto leans forward into his opponent and one trainingg camp working on defense may not be enough to break the habit. Clottey works the body well and Cotto keeps his elbows wide.
I have 20K to put on Clottey to win ... Any takers
Clottey's uppercuts and his use of the hook off of it may give Cotto fits after the 5th round because that is when IMO the muscle memory takes over and the work in the training camp falls off. Clottey's right doesn't impress me as much and I think he is wide open for the hook when he throws it.
My brain tells me that Cotto will win by UD but my gut keeps telling me to go with Clottey for some reason.
I got to trust the gut and pick Clottey by SDComment
