WBA welterweight champion Sugar Shane Mosley was ringside for the debut of Golden Boy Promotions new “Fight Night Club” boxing series on Thursday night on Versus at Nokia Club at L.A. LIVE.
Mosley talked about Manny Pacquiao, Floyd Mayweather Jr., Miguel Cotto and Antonio Margarito.
Here is what Sugar Shane had to say or you can check out the video (Note: The fights were held at a night club, so the sound quality is a little rough because of the bass coming from the sound system at times):
On a potential fight against Manny Pacquiao:
“I feel (Top Rank chairman) Bob Arum is throwing him off the trail. I think Pacquiao probably wants to. He would fight me. I know that. He is a warrior. He’ll fight anybody. I think his people are trying to see what happens with (Floyd) Mayweather (Jr.) and (Juan Manuel) Marquez.”
On what other possible opponents he would want to face:
“I’m not really excited about any other fight than Mayweather or Pacquiao. The only other fight I can think about is (against Miguel) Cotto.
“But I think Cotto and (Antonio) Margarito will end up getting it on because of the plaster and whatever he said. I don’t think the plaster had anything to do with it. Me, really, I think not. I think if you look at the fight with Margarito and Cotto, Cotto was hitting Margarito all night and nothing happened. I was hitting Margarito in the first round and he was feeling my shots. Margarito was hitting Cotto with so many good shots all day long. Margarito didn’t land those shots against me. So I don’t think it makes a difference.
“I would love to see what happens, really what happens. I pretty much know. It’s nothing gonna change, I don’t think. Cotto gonna get off to a big start and he’ll have to figure out how to run to get outta there, because Margarito is gonna catch up to him.”
On the possibility of Margarito possibly fighting in Tijuana, Mexico, while he is suspended in the U.S.:
“I think that Margarito wants to show the world that he’s a great fighter, that he’s a warrior. I don’t think he’ll go in there and fight anybody else except for Cotto, because Cotto is the only one that’s really been making the big noise about Margarito cheating and all that stuff. I really don’t believe it. I think Margarito is the superior fighter. If you look at the fight, he landed a lot of shots on Cotto and Cotto never hurt him.
“That’s it, Cotto never hurt him. Margarito hit him with so many shots and Margarito didn’t hit me with any shots. Margarito hit me with one uppercut to the head. But he didn’t hit me with anything.”
On fighting Margarito:
“They said when I fought Margarito, they thought that I was gone, that I wasn’t going to be washed up, that I was too old. They’ve seen that I wasn’t. Now they know.”
