Mr boat buyer wasn't gettin the $ he wanted for the DLH rematch, so that fight was outta the picture. He had no choice but to fight the Cotto-Marg winner...or GTFO. So he left.

I know. He knew that fight was comin, and it was basically an eliminator to determine which one he would have to fight.

He didn't retire after Baldomir... he retired after De La Hoya for a couple of months then fought Hatton and retired.

                      In my opinion two reasons.

                      1. Avoid having to deal with Shane, Cotto, Pwill, Margo since if he tries to continue his 147 campaign he will be forced to fight them. He waited until Shane Aged, Cotto lost, Marg is suspended and PWill moved up a weight class.

                      2. He waited until a low-risk big payday fight was available. He let PacMan/JMM and others build up reputation as P4P #1 so he can get a bigger payday than he would have had against any of the aforementioned WWs and at a lower risk.

Neither reason is very manly but with the way boxing is setup it's much smarter than what your average fighter is doing. I really wish Boxing would force the best to fight each other…
