Pacquiao-Cotto Match is possible with Cotto's Win this Saturday

A Pacquiao-Cotto match may take place late this year if Miquel Cotto wins over Joshua Clottey in their boxing encounter scheduled for this Saturday at the Madison Square Garden in New York.
The Manny Pacquiao-Miguel Cotto match looms as the next boxing blockbuster of the year.

Filipino boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao has set October 17 for his next mega fight but his promoter, Bob Arum and Team Pacquiao have yet to name his opponent.

At least four serious contenders are courting Pacquiao for a match with the pound-for-pound king on the designated date. They are; Floyd Mayweather,Jr., Juan Manuel Marquez, Shane Mosley and Miguel Cotto.

Boxing fans around the world have been clamoring for a Pacquiao-Mayweather match after the Pretty Boy formally announced his come back from a two-year self imposed retirement. Boxing observers agree that a Pacquiao-Mayweather match will generate substantial revenues for the stakeholders.

However, some ‘roadblocks’ have appeared in the Pacquiao-Mayweather match up. First and foremost is the fight purse issue.

In the setanta news report yesterday, Bob Arum said; ‘"Mayweather is taking the position that unless he gets more money, there will never be a fight - that's absurd," Arum said.

"Manny is the most sought-after boxer on the planet.

"If Mayweather persists with this position, a fight will never happen."

In the case of a Pacquiao-Marquez rematch, the best counter puncher from Mexico has to win over Mayweather in order to boost his chances for his most sought-after rematch.

In the last few days, Shane Mosley has been prodding Manny Pacquiao to accept his offer of a 60-40 fight purse in favor of the pound for pound king.

Right after the Pacquiao-Hatton match last May 2, Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum has been plugging a Pacquiao-Cotto match. He said that the fight will be a ‘crowd drawer’ if it is staged at the Madison Square Garden adding that Cotto has a solid crowd from Puerto Rico and the east coast.

A Pacquiao-Cotto match is indeed a real possibility not only because they belong to the same promoter but with Cotto’s win this Saturday, he will definitely rival Mayweather for a crack at Pacquiao later this year.

cotto has no business fighting pac, but if the fight gets made nobody should be crying about it.

I look at a Cotto/Pac fight as a means to an end. Cotto/Floyd is what I wanna see and that probably wouldn't happen unless Cotto beat Pac. So while I'd prefer a Mosley fight to a Pac fight, if a Pac fight yields Cotto/Floyd than so be it.
