Boxing used to be on TNT?

I was watching an early Floyd fight from 1999 on YouTube, and realized it was broadcasted by TNT. I don't remember boxing being on TNT. Golden Boy needs to talk to the networks like TNT and USA to get boxing back on basic cable. Versus is a good start, but I don't think it's all that great of a network.

Mosley is commentating along with the guy who calls the basketball games on TNT.

      They only did 2 shows.

FX also had a fight night series that didn't last, and I believe $pike TV had 1 card also.

Damn, Floyd on CBS too. They need to bring boxing back to these networks! I think "Fight Night Club" is going to get it started.

I know FX used to have the Toughman contests. Never knew they did professional boxing...

yeah but you see, boxers won't make nearly as much money if they fight on basic cable. what cable network would pay a fighter $20 million for 1 fight? I can't imagine a network ever dishing out more than $5 million for even the most popular of fighters. And the biggest reason is that bars and other public places that show boxing matches, pay like $2000 just to show one fight. Cable Network channels can't do that.

So boxing will remain a ppv sport for major fights while cable channels will be more for the prospects of boxing who need to build their popularity.

They would have to get a deal with a good network that is willing to show multiple events for it to make any impact.

I'm not expecting Mayweather vs Pacquiao on basic cable. I think the fights that make it on to regular HBO, like Juan Manuel Marquez vs Juan Diaz, should get shown on regular cable. I don't think either of those two fighters made over a million, and it was fight of the year potential. Things like that would bring boxing back to the mainstream. They would have to get a deal with a good network that is willing to show multiple events to make a difference. It would be like the UFC's relationship with S.pike, but to a lesser extent because boxing would still be on other networks (HBO and Showtime).

I also think it would be nice if Golden Boy did a weekly Sunday afternoon boxing series on CBS, NBC, or ABC (not Fox because they show baseball games) during the summer when no other sports are going on besides baseball. That kind would be for exciting up and comers (Deontay Wilder, Yuriorkis Gamboa, Demetrius Andrade, ect.). It could start every spring and run up until the NFL season starts.

Golden Boy should hire me God Damnit!
