I think Arum is starting to slip, but he still has a very solid company with many solid boxing people in it (DuBouf,Trampler, the guy he hired away from DiBella (his name escapes me)). Arum is a very smart man who understands exactly how to play the marketplace like a fiddle, the Harvard man also understands how to run his business. It will be interesting to see what happeans to Top Rank when Arum is not around anymore, he has it set up very well but he is the face of the organization.

I do hate listening to Arum speak though, and even though I want him to do well most of the time (because he is a major player in the industry so him doing well is the sport doing well) but I find it pretty funny when a big event of his flames out.

He is a bitter and jaded old man though, but you promote boxing for aslong as he has and see what your attitude is, that really does not change the fact that he is a good promoter.

DO IT NOW DAMMT!!!!!!!!!! im tired of **** promoters not letting the best fight the best. it happened in the 90s with lewis and bowe, and its happening now in the mw division.
uh... you know hbo's budget is real thin for 2009 right? so pavlik/sturm probably won't happen till 2010.

Thats not so much him, thats their matchmaker, i think its brad goodman, who guided de la hoya, mayweather, cotto and others.

I think Arum is a piece of **** too. He is the worst promoter in the game in my opinion. I know Gary Shaw is a poor man's version of him, but he doesn't have as many big name fighters in his stable to do that much damage to the sport. What I want to know is that when is Arum gonna do anything for Soto and Donaire? I wouldn't want to be promoted by him if I was a fighter because it seems like if you don't have a big fan base he'll throw you under the bus. He brought Cotto and Pavlik up the right way, and I have to give him credit for that. But he's also made ****** moves with them. He threw Pavlik in with Hopkins and you saw Kelly's stock take a big hit after that loss. And as much as Mayweather didn't go out of his way to make a fight with Cotto, some of the blame needs to go in the other direction as well. He said things like "I don't want to throw my fighter in with a businessman" after Cotto beat Mosley. And I'll bet that Cotto could have gotten a super fight with DLH if Arum didn't come up with every petty excuse in the world to be at odds with Golden Boy back when they were feuding with each other. I'm skeptical if DLH would have fought him anyway though.

Arum becomes horribly protective as soon as his fighters are on top, but the guy and his team can really promote fights and develop his fighters better than any other promoter.

De La Hoya, Mayweather, Toney, Marquez Bros., Cotto, Pavlik, Margarito, Juanma Lopez, Victor Ortiz, a lot of these fighters were developed from day 1 and they are just recent examples. Golden Boy hasn't done that yet and Arum either made these fighters attractions or increased their popularity.
