Clottey:
- "Cotto accepted the fight and that was exactly what I wanted," said Clottey, a 3-1 betting underdog Saturday. "I respect Cotto for giving me a chance, a chance to fight him. I respect that so much."
- "I feel something inside me when I'm hitting a guy. But you know if you don't finish the job, the job will finish you," said Clottey, 32.
- "Yeah, I think so. I think so very, very much. I think if I go in there and beat him that he will have trouble getting back to the fight. I definitely think he won't come to fight again," Clottey said.
- "If he throws punches the way he did against Margarito, then he's going to have problems. He only lost three rounds to Antonio in that fight but still got knocked out," said Clottey
- "He is the champion so that would make him the favorite," said Clottey
- "Even if I lose, I'll make a good account of myself, and they'll ask for me. The people that are picking me to win the fight, they're making a very good decision," Clottey said
- "I have never said anywhere that I am going to knock Cotto out," Clottey said during a conference call. "I am not thinking about that. I used to think about that. If I think about knocking him out, I will go wide.
Cotto:
- "We're going to put two warriors, two real fighters [in the ring]," Cotto said. "Two guys who like to fight and bring people good events. I think it's going to be a war, a real good fight and a fight to remember."
- "Fighting in front of thousands of Rican people, in the Garden, means a lot for me," Cotto said. "For my career, it's like a tradition."
- "All I am thinking about is Clottey right now. That's the fight at hand and I cannot get side-tracked thinking about other fights or fighters.
- As far as Pacman goes, Cotto told me on Saturday, "Manny has proven himself to be one of the great fighters. Everyone was surprised by how he handled Ricky Hatton. There is no doubt as to Manny's greatness."
- "I feel good. My weight is good. The fight with Clottey will be tough fight and we will produce a good show for all the fans but I plan to leave as the champion that night"
- "Joe has always helped Evangelista in camp," Cotto said. "Joe has really helped to integrate every member of the team into the training. The communication is better and that is helping me, the athlete, prepare for the fight."
