MAGIC MAN vs BABY BULL: a good fight that i dont like

magic man vs baby bull seems to be a done deal they're fighting at a catchweight of 138.5, on augut 22nd i think.

on the face of it this is a good fight one that i would not mind, i mean whenever two marquee names get in the ring its a good thing. especially in todays boxing world of politics.

but this is a fight that i don't like and i dont really know why. imo the loser will end up on epn FNF and imo neither of these guys deserves that, they're both above that level. if this was a fight between two old timers i wouldn't mind it, but its not and whoever loses will fail in securing any big fights for the few years.

maybe its just because i like both these guys but, id prefer for both to steadily rebuild their status as top class fighters in their weight divisions or take on guys they can beat.

amir khan, ali funeka, urango - i wouldn't have minded seeing some of these names being linked to diaz and paulie.

Diaz vs Paulie makes perfect sense. The winner goes on to better things the loser goes into the shade. Diaz lost his two biggest fights to date, and Mallignaggi has lost his two biggest fights to date. None of them have proven that they are world beaters. Whoever loses will have to rebuild themselves from the bottom, whoever wins gets another shot at redemption. It's a great fight, just don't expect to see a KO.

this is my point timba - we see the likes of khan and kotelnik battling it out for a title!!

now no-one can argue that khan would beat diaz at LW and imo paulie would beat kotelnik at 140 as well.

my concern is that boxing fans will miss out on seeing the loser of paulie vs diaz in genuinely good fights against decent competition.

maybe its because they're both fighters that i like but id rather see them face the likes of khan and kotelnik

Khan isn't really a big name in the states. and Kotelnik isn't either. I guess Diaz and Mallignaggi are more concerned with money at the moment, and that's why they are fighting each other. That's boxing I guess. But Diaz and Mallignaggi could have easily fought Kotelnik as both are bigger names than Khan in the states, and would have the backing of HBO. However, they decided to pursue the money. They made their bed and now one of them will have to sleep in it.

Maybe the loser of this fight would be a perfect opponent for the winner of Khan-Kotelnik

this is so weird because i was thinking the exact same thing. I like both of these guys and i dont want to see either be relegated to journyman or gatekeeper status.

This is the quintessential "cross roads" fight. And "cross roads" fights are usually very competitive because each fighter knows a loss sets them back to square one and a win propels them to bigger, better, and more lucrative fights. This should be a great fight..
