Valuev Confirmed as Champ By WBA, Not Chagaev

In response to complaints from Nikolai Valuev and Sauerland Event that Ruslan Chagaev and Universum are spreading incorrect information, the WBA clarified on Tuesday that Valuev is the WBA world champion and Chagaev is merely the champion in recess. A May 30th showdown between Valuev and Chagaev was derailed when Chagaev’s uncertain hepatitis levels caused the Finnish boxing commission to declare him unfit to fight. Since then, Chagaev and Universum issued press releases stating Chagaev is the WBA champion, a claim now refuted by Tuesday’s letter. Chagaev has protested the Finnish ruling, and the matter is in the hands of the WBA. The sanctioning body’s attorneys have now put in writing that Chagaev's status as champion in recess is "under review" and Valuev remains the world champion. Chagaev is expected to face IBF/WBO champion Wladimir Klitschko on June 20th in Germany, where the hepatitis regulations are looser than in Finland and most of the world. The WBA’s attorney letter also states that neither Chagaev, Klitschko nor their representatives have requested a WBA sanction of the event, which “is unlikely to be granted.” Valuev and Sauerland will make no attempt to stop Chagaev from fighting Klitschko, but have demanded that Valuev’s status as champion not be further confused by a WBA sanction of Klitschko-Chagaev. A copy of the WBA letter is attached for reference. [details]

wanna know the reason klit and chag havent requested a sanction from the WBA for this fight? cuz the WBA belt doesnt mean **** anymore. let Valuev be the champ, who cares. he's only gonna fight Ruiz with the winner fighting Holyfield and that winner obligated to fight the winner of the losers of the previous two fights fighting. and then that loser will get a title shot because the new champ will retire. and then come back as champion in recess and fight for the super regular belt

Strange of WBA... I thought they "would like" to have 2 champions... They could sanction Chag/Wlad for "super" champ and let Valuev be a "Regular" one...

I have stated it long ago, IBO>WBA

The only reason i feel sad is because Wlad won`t hold the WBA belt, and that is a pretty one (i mean the belt, not Wlad)...

I ****ing hate Valuev. He is a disgrace. That ni99a should be banned from holding any belt.

He got his ass beat by an Old Holyfield.

Why can't Wlad just KO this Valuev with a ****ing jab already. JESUS!

No surprise here. Valuev is the WBA titlist, Ruiz is the WBA mandatory, Meehan is the WBA #1 contender, and Don King promotes or owns a piece of each.

As much as i'd rather have the IBO replace the WBA as the other "major belt" it won't happen. The WBA was the first out of the major 4 to be founded and has been there for a long time so i think it's impossible to replace it now as it has too much history. Plus most people still think the IBO is useless.

Most people know they are ALL useless. Its a shame not as many realise that there is one that is the worst, and its the WBA. How many feckin champions do they need ffs?

Oh, and who gives a **** if Chag or Valeuv is the "real" WBA world champion. Not even either guys mother thinks that they are the real heavyweight champion.
