People portray him as a brainless slugger but he speaks quite well and has a wide vocab (for example 'people dont like to be humiliated in that particular fashion') but how was his intelligence in the boxing ring?

He's very intelligent outside of the ring.

Listening to him speak about his life and what happened in it. Gave me a lot of great insight in to the reasons why he did what he did.

I think he'd make a better boxing commentator then Lewis.

mike tyson is and always was very intelligent. however intelligence and mental stability dont always go hand in hand. mike had issues like we all know, but he was still very intelligent in and out of the ring. very few (if any) fighters studied the boxing game more than tyson, he was a true student of the game. had a very scientific approach to boxing, again very intelligent in and out of the ring.

Intelligent? In some ways. He is a great student of the art. But emotionally he is a child.

As far as knowledge of the sport, he is quite intelligent.
